Hyperion EOS Sentry
« on: October 06, 2011, 07:18:14 AM »
One of the guys down our local field is slowly coming up to speed with ECL, he's been an ERC flyer for some time so is no novice when it comes to brush-less motors, lipos etc. He commented after 1 flight he had X% left in a pack so was going to increase the flight time. How do you know? I asked... so he showed me his "Hyperion EOS sentry" unit.

What a great piece of kit.  ~> I already have a cheap device which tells me the voltage of each cell and total voltage of the pack (And this has saved me from putting a half charged pack into a model a few times). The Sentry seems to be an extension of that, It provides info on cell voltage, Pack Voltage, Voltage difference across cells, %age charge left in the pack. I was impressed and had to get myself one.

Worryingly the %age figure it gives is around 5% higher than the reading I see when I 1st connect a pack to my Hyperion 1210i and as both products are from the same company I wonder why the different calculation methods (and which one I should believe).

Just wondered if anyone else was using one?

I agree Steve, they cost less than a battery.  I plan to use it to see where the battery really is after a flight.  Up to now I have depended on the charger for all my information.  I did get a IR temp reading device and that also gives some interesting information on the heat of the ESC, Battery and motor after a flight.  But I am still not sure how to use the information other than things are not too hot.

Hi Andrew,
That was the reason for buying mine as well (To take readings immediately after a flight). As Steve says for the money it's no brainer. Now if the weather will begin to co operate I might even get to actually use it in anger. (High 80's and 5-10mph winds last weekend, high 50's and 25-35mph winds ever since).  HB~>

Hi All
For the first time I took the meter to the field and actually measured each battery before and after each flight.  This device really works great.  All the batteries showed 99% before the flight and they varied from 23% for the P-51 to 33% for the Naughty Girl after the flight.  It also lets you look at each cell for their individual voltage and gives the total battery voltage for all the cells.  It's interesting information, but I am not sure how to use it.  But the percentage of usage lets you know how the power system is working on the spot.  My only question is how accurate the measurement is and how it is obtained.  Anyway I do like this device so far.
