Super Soft Start Mode
« on: February 03, 2013, 03:48:44 PM »
I just got my Super Clown and Arrowwind power package about a week ago.  I am reading everything I can before I put the kit and system together.  I have read Dennis' article about changing the startup mode from the Super Soft Mode to prevent any issues.  I have read the instructions that came with the ESC, and still do not know how to make the change.  Can anyone help me before I go off into the woods and do something stupid???

Hi Haroid
FIRST I see this is you first post so WELCOME to Stunt Hanger and the Electric Forum.

The ESC with the SUper Clown is pre-programmed for Super Soft start because I thought it was important to help reduce the current spikes that occur at start.  It all works great EXCEPT if you substitute the KR governing Timer.  THis timer sense RPM feedback and if the motor RPM is too low it shuts the system off.  This was done (by KR) as a precaution against things like nose-over's on take off or any other event where prop speed is restricted.

If you are using the stock FM-0c timer that came with the Super Clown system then - no worries, everything will work just fine.  If you substituted the KR TImer then you will have to get the Programming Card from Brodak (see item #BH-1875) and revise the starting mode:

http://brodak.com/electric/electric-parts/led-program-card/led-program-card-for-esc.html

BTW If you got the KR TImer, then Keith Renecle (KR) and Andy Borgogna, both of whom are regulars here can pinpoint any advice you might need with that.

Welcome aboard!

KEEP IN TOUCH here, we'll help you through.

Dennis -

Thanks for the advice.  I have found that there is more to the eye than just hooking up the system and going flying.  I am full of questions and will post more later.

     Thanks, Brew

Hello Harold,
Let me chime in on Dennis' welcome.
Sure there is a whole lot to be learned ... but just take a thoughtful look at the tons of stuff we've all learned about engines tanks and fuel just to get a workable stunt-run!
By comparison, this learning curve ain't half bad.

keep us appraised of your progress,

As others have said welcome to electric flight.  As Dennis said if you decide sometime to switch to the KR timer/governor I will be happy to help you in any way I can.
