Title: Here's the bill FWIW!
Post by: Ward Van Duzer on April 24, 2011, 10:45:21 AM
Well I've fianlly gotten all my stuff together and added up it doesn't seem as bad as I thought it might be... %^@

Now of course, we only have one battery at this time 'til we're sure that's the right one.

Also no fire proof bag. Couldn't find any in stock, or even get a price on one. Will probably go with a military shell case box.

As an aside it was suggested I go with an FMA 4s Gold charger. With all the extras it came to about $71.00. OK, not too bad, but get this...Shipping from Hong Kong, $38.00! Today I get an email from them, and they are announcing that they have opened up a US based shipping center to minimze the shipping burden on their customers! What a great idea!!!  LL~

Gotta go and start hacking up my airplane!

Yup!

That's one of the reasons I put this out here.

You can spend more, of course, and you can spend less. This list is for reasonable quality, Classic sized airplane stuff. I did get lucky on the charger!

For a full cost accounting you'd separate it out into stuff that goes into the plane but doesn't get used up (motor, timer, ESC), stuff goes into the plane but wears (batteries), and stuff that stays out of the plane (charger, programmers, voltmeter, etc).

Then figure out how many batteries you need to buy in a season vs. how many gallons of fuel, and work up a "cost to fly for a season" for electric vs. glow.

Tim,

Way too much work and supposition...

Look at it this way. If I want to power a second plane of similar size all I need is a motor, controller, and timer. Actually you could probably swap the timer and controller back and forth if you wanted to get real cheep!
