Head Speed and Change Rate
« on: June 08, 2016, 09:31:05 AM »
Looking at the head speed change rate on my ice lite 50.  It was on 8 and I set it on 5 or maybe 5 to 8 I forget but it didn't seem to change anything when flying. thinking this doesn't do anything in governor mode right?

My head speeds are all set at 2856 which it says are too slow but isn't this all for helicopters that use a throttle, it doesn't matter where it's set for CL does it?

Thanks,
MM

What little I know: "Head speed change rate" controls how fast the ESC will change the speed -- if it gets a faster change in commanded speed, it'll ramp the speed toward the new target at the change rate until it's close.  This is to prevent a powerful motor from stressing a helicopter's gear train.

It doesn't matter if you're using a Hubin (or Hubinesque, if anyone is copying Will) timer, but it matters with the Igor timer and (I think) the Fioretti (sp?) timer.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

I think it is primarily used in the "set rpm" mode as opposed to the high govenor mode

I don't think you need to set the head speed rpm numbers in Control line/ Governor high settings for the Hubin timer. but the Head speed change Rate does makes some difference when you go up to around 12-20 setting.
