Title: Hacker A30-10XL

Help?

    The Hacker A30-10XL that came with my RSM set up has the shaft out both ends of the motor.It also contains

a shorter shaft by itself. Now -- being a complete newbie to this I do not want to ruin something I just got out of

ignorance. Is there a way to put the short shaft on the motor without ruining it???? It has extra c rings etc.

Walter,

Could you post pictures of what you have?  The Hacker A30-10XL will make a great stunt motor.  I think it will be really hard to ruin it with all the help you have on this forum.

Walter,
Just use the shaft that's attached to the can.Avoid the collet it just involves too much hassle and u might not b able 2 use a full spinner. (It could Vibrate!)And b careful don't tighten it too much they break real easy. I've just   converted a Saturn for someone using the RSM plug & play system. Archie,

    I just got off the phone with Darrel Harvin,   The Hacker I got has the shaft out both ends of the can 13/16 each side of the can front and back.  Included in the RSM package was another shaft that is not on the motor that is

2 3/4 inches long. Darrel said he has tapped the shaft out on Turnigy motors. Either I cut the shaft on the Motor or use collets for prop mount? I am leary of tapping the shaft out and putting the short one in so I can use the supplied prop adapter. But I seems like that is what is intended.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

   Per Darrel's instructions I carefully ,very carefully tapped out the shaft which is 3 9/16 long out of the Hacker and inserted behind it with the supplied extra washer and circlip already attached new shorter shaft and now I have the prop mounted with supplied prop adapter.  An important note. The RSM set up included a laser cut piece of circular plywood which has the 4 motor mount holes and center hole cut out. I am not sure what its intended use was.

I used it as a buffer between the motor and the vice when I tapped out the old shaft! Thanks Darrell for the help.

I see u got the shaft changed, Now here are a few pics of the stand I use with the watt meter attached.
I run the setup with props and spinners mostly 2 check balance. And I if the balance checks out I run it no
more than a minute. If not the panic button can be punched. Better it happens here than out at the field!

If you really want to cut the shaft there is a easy way to do it.
I am a machinist so here is the problem.
1. the steel shavings will go in the bearing
2. you may want to cut it close to the motor

The fix:
Get a piece of scrap plastic say 1/32 thick and drill a hole on the middle and cut the outside round at least 1.5 the outside diameter of the motor. Then press fit this ring on the shaft. You just have created a barrier. For extra insurance you may want to tape all openings in the motor.
Mount the motor and get it to spin on the lowest RPM you get.
Now with a cutting wheel in your Dremel tool cut off the shaft wherever you want to. Two rules here: first hold the Dremel with two hands and have some support under your hands for stability and second do not rush you do not want to put too much heat in the shaft.
