Glow to electric
« on: March 03, 2007, 11:36:17 AM »
Has anyone noticed that MVVS and Thunder Tiger are now making electric motors (at least they are being sold under the name MVVS and TT)? It's interesting to see these changes taking place.

I wonder if this is because IC sales are falling off or because they don't want to get behind on a growing market? Or maybe it's because their sales are down across the board?

No matter what the reason, it gives us more choices and it all helps drive prices down. Slowly.......

MVVS longer time says they are going to stop production of small glow engines. For now they stop production of 3.5ccm, 7,5ccm and 10ccm engines.

The electric Mvvs 3.5 is really developed in MVVS (by the way by the same person like AXI and HVP motors). They are outrunners rotating in plastic tube, so they look like inrunners. Advantage is low no-load current what makes them usefull for our rpm at aprox. 10 000.

Igor,
I didn't notice the outrunner in a "can" before. Interesting design, but it seems to add expense, weight and size to a conventional outrunner design. I guess they have a reason for doing it, but I don't see an advantage.

Here are a few pictures showing the MVVS motor. Look at that motor shaft!!!

advantage is mounting on front and wires on back

BTW this is its predecessor:

Yes they are available. There are also new types like this one:

I did not test it, but I think trio AXI 2826/10,   MPJ AC 28/20-7 (full name is AC 28/20-7 Mk2 - MPJ 20201) and MVVS 3,5/960 are very similar

anyway, I think Mega 600/30/5 is better, even more expensive choice, it has only 11mOhm inner resistance compared to those upper with ~30mOhm what gives better efficiency ... however I did not try it yet, but it is already on the way  8)

Only 11 milli-Ohms, Igor?
I have to look this motor up and run some numbers. That would be great!
That's about a 6 or 7% horsepower gain for free, provided the no-load current is not too high.
How much does the Mega 600/30/5 weigh?
later,

Hey Mike,
You aren't imagining things!
It is happening, and the engine manufacturers see it.

Unfortunatelly I do not know exact no load current. Here is link:

http://www.megamotor.cz/new/script/mega.php?sid=aaa974df1df3e8db43a10eb566435714&ref=products

What I know for sure, that 600/30/4 has no load curent 2.8A at two cells. If you consider that is has only 8mohm, it is very good parameter

Hi Igor,
That does look good, especially at low cell counts and high currents.
I'll go check the site.

I actually got to hands new motors from MVVS. They now make new types with integrated forced ventilation (called "sport"), so it will be good choice for nose plate mounting (they have only front mounting available).

Now they also make several new motors - also smaller and also bigger, the numbering is always related to IC piston engine in ccm. they do it down to 2 (.12 cu inch) - not yet on home page

I am going to try this MVVS 4,6/840 SPORT in bigger model (good for 5 lipo cells) but I plan to use it with 6 cells A123
here is picture:

and here home page with other motors:
