Getting started

Guy's
        I posted here a week or so ago about being an electric novice.
OK have read a lot in this forum,so its time to dip the toe in the water!
I need some help on where to buy the items,based on some posts on
this forum I have decided to set up a system around the Twister/Banshee
just to get going.I can buy Scorpion motors here in Australia,my first
thought is a S11-3020-890kv,which leads me to my first question,
are the Scorpion ESC suitable?
Timers where can I buy the JPM-2 or Z -tron ,are there suppliers in the USA?

I think the Scorpion ESC's have a governor built-in, but I am not sure how well it works (it may be fine, I just don't know).

That being said, I think that a Castle Creation Phoenix 50 ICE "Lite" which includes a coupon for a free Castle Link (hookup to a PC) is the best deal right now, because it also incorporates a built-in data recorder. This is a big help in understanding if you are running the setup in a good mode. The only thing better would be if it would tell you before you bought everything! ;)

The older CC Phoenix ESC's are a real bargain right now. All the Phoenix ESC's include a proven governor, and also a prop brake.

I think you can order the JMP-2 or Ztron from BSD  http://www.bsdmicrorc.com/index.php?categoryID=46&offset=8 (bottom of page for JMP-2, next page for Ztron). I am pretty sure Will Hubin will ship one of his excellent timers outside the USA. You could PM him on this forum to find out.

 You can get the ztron timers from Mike Palko as well - he sent me two just a month ago - also Will Hubin sends his timers internationally as well.   I am in New Zealand - so not too far away from you (unless you are in Perth)

You guys seem to have pretty good stores over there anyway - so I guess motors and batteries are easier to come by than over here

      Thanks for the reply, I asked about the Scorpion ESC as it has a
programming card,which maybe helpful at the field,and if I am correct,
the Castle needs to be connected to a PC?

Yes there are a number of retail shops in various
states,but being in the country its all mail order
and you need to know what you are ordering.
As well I fly C/L most of the time by myself,due
to shiftwork.

Yes that is correct.

However I "hear" CC is coming out with a programming card--but I wouldn't hold my breath on that. They have been known to miss product availability dates--that's even when they give an estimate! I haven't even heard an estimate for the programming card, but it certainly will be welcome when it sees the light of day.

But if you go with the Scorpion ESC, I might snoop around the RCGroups thread ( http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=660918 ) on the Scorpion ESC to see how the Heli guys like the governor. I would do a search since there are 366 pages of posts!

Good wine country then!!!  Hunter valley wines are quite nice.

The mountain ranges got a bit of red dust from your big storm - not a lot made it over the top however!!!

For Scorpion motors I always use Innov8tive Designs. They ship internationally too.

That is just a lead in to suggesting that you email them and ask about their ESC's. They have been very responsive in the past for me when I have questions. Good quality products too.
