I had a chance this week end to spend some time with a few of our brothers of this forum. I came away with a warm fuzzy feeling of how good it was just to hang around these guys. I got to hang out with Bud Wieder, Bob Hunt, and Tom Hampshire for a while. What excellent people these guys are ! This C/L stunt community is fortunate to have people of this caliber amongst us. What shows up for me is how selfless and gracious they are. They are always looking to see how they can be of help to some one. They are just great people to be around. And I was thinking, I'll bet there are a lot of other brothers of this forum who come under the same category. I just don't know them yet. So maybe we could hear from some of you guys about the really wonderful people you've met in the hobby. :)

Sooo ah, I guess I was lucky enough to meet the only 3 good guys in the C/L Stunt world. None of you guys have been helped, mentored, encouraged, or taught by other guys. I think NOT ! ???

Hi Dan
I was trying to come up with some witty comment about your acquaintances - all of them among my favorite people - you can only truly razz your friends.
-
That is probably one of the reasons I miss going to the NATS and a few other contests. It is the people.

Doc
Who were some of the people who gave of themselves and taught you some things that helped you become a better builder and flyer over the years before your beard got white ? ;)
-
Dennis
The people who taught & mentored you all had the same last name no ?
-
Just go back and read all of the magazines thru the years, even tho I never got to personally meet them as time moved on. Locally it was the club members in the Flying Eagles and the Sky Devils. Oh almost forgot TOPClass. And I am still learning from all the great modellers in the big world called Earth.

There have been many that I have been pleased to meet and gain knowledge from. Two "lesser known" gentlemen are Winky Chatfield who taught me to actually fly a C/L model and Tom Luper who has always been a helping hand for over 20 years.
Of the "known" guys, Billy Werwage, Bob Hunt, Randy Smith, Tom Dixon, Windy, Ted Fancher, Bob Whitely, Brett Buck, Paul Walker, Bob Gieseke, Tom Hampshire, Allen Brickhaus, Dale and Derek Barry, Charlie Reeves, Pat Jonston, Al Rabe, Ron Burn, "PaPa" Dave Hemstraught, Tom Lay, Big Jim Greenaway, Bob "Champione" Lampione and a few others have helped in many ways. I have had the great pleasure of meeting these guys and am not shy to call on them to help with a "problem". The great thing about this hobby/sport is that everyone, including the very best, are more than willing to be of help. And I get to do this with my oldest son which makes it all the better!

I watched my Dad build a super Ringmaster when I was between 4 & 5 then go with his friend & fly it, he decided he couldn't do it, couldn't tell when it was coming in on him etc. So I taught myself to fly on the old Testors plastic planes, then when I was about 18 or so I met Terry Rimert who taught me how to race C/L planes

Certainly a LOT but they were not alone. I was (am) a sneaky SOB I watched everybody, talked to them, looked over their stuff and learned all I could - still do. Sidebar lessons included learning to laugh about our addiction and keeping "perspective" - that lesson continues unabated.
-
Is the story true about the first wing you tried to build by yourself true? Big Art told it at Topeka the year he was here for a stunt clinic. Almost started laughing when I heard it. Sure wished I could have sent my son home with him at the time.

Being a newbie stunt flyer, I can certainly relate to watching everybody, and trying to learn all I can from them. As far as keeping perspective goes I think "diagonally parked in a parallel universe" says it all !! :##

I left out a very special family of friends who have helped me a ton in recent years: The Adamisins. I met Big Art many years ago (and used a few of his engines) and I am looking forward to meeting Dennis in person before we leave this rock. Denny has really been patient with my questions. Thank you, Brother Denny!
I have only met one person in this hobby that I wouldn't really want to spend much time with. I met him a year ago, and he shall remain nameless! Out of all the people I HAVE met, only one bad apple doesn't spoil the whole bunch. I would really be in trouble if I had to do, and learn, all of the stuff that people have helped me with over the years.

Yes Bill. Dennis has helped me a bunch also. I find he has helped a whole lot of people get started in electric C/L. He is a fine example of what I was talking about when I started this thread. I refer to him and a few others as "THE BEST". :)

Hi Doc
When I built my Typhoon (my 5th or so full body stunter) I built 2 wings, two fuselages, 3 stabs/elevators and 2 fin/rudders. Those are the "numbers" but as you know when my dad weaves those numbers into a the story it gets a whole lot funnier.

I used a technique Dennis shared on SH for his through the firewall mounting system on my recently inspired E Shark 45 project for Classic next season.I used .060 CF plate sandwiched by two 1/8" pieces of lite ply to add extra gluing surface to the edges of the CF.My new Adamisin inspired firewall mount weighs in at 6.7 grams replacing the Maple ones that came with the kit weighing in at 64.2 grams. All of the Adamisins are an overflowing abundance of information and willing to share.THANX GUYS!!!
