Flat Foam Build for Electric CL
« on: February 27, 2010, 02:25:52 PM »
Here is a 1/2A project that I am working on, 25" wing span. It will be flown as a CL plane but with RC control.
This type of kit is extremely easy to build - like a SIG Skyray. It needs some strengthening since it was designed as a slow flyer. But adding balsa doublers to fuse and wing will make it strong enough for the higher CL air speeds. I have flown this type of plane sucessfully on a 35' line. Its electric only since the foam would be destroyed by gas.
Target weight is 9 oz.
First pic shows The kit pieces
Second pic shows it ready for assembly.

I will use the Baby Clown power system previously posted.

I plan to add pix of the completed plane in several days.

Jim,

I'll be interested to know how it flies. I built something similar a couple of years ago and it flew OK. It didn't like to loop very well because of the flat wing.

I don't understand what you mean by CL but RC controls. What does that mean?

Post results when you get it flying.

Bob, and what is the problem? too heavy? or? ... this video was here several times, but I am posting again, flat wing can fly as well ...

Igor
I think it was a matter of being underpowered. It was one of my first attempts with electirics bit I learned from it.

Igor's video was the inspiration for building and flying planes like this. A picture of the completed airframe is attached. It is flown with flaps coupled to the elevator. I will start another thread on it after I have it flying.

I have previously posted these links but here is how its twin flys around a camera tripod on 20'. Loops are about 12' in diameter:

And here are the setup details
