I am going to take my first plunge into electric flying. I plan on using a Brodak Oriental ARF powered by an E Flight Power 15. I will also use a Phoenix Edge 50 ESC and a Hubin FM9 timer. This is all based on a post I read from Linheart Smith dated 8/24/2013. In his post he suggested using a Hyperion 4S CXG3 25 C 2500 ma battery. I have no idea what the CXG3 stands for. I have seen ads for G Force Elite and Glacier batteries that are 30 C which I believe are acceptable, however I cannot find a 2500 ma. Can I use a 2600 or 2800 ma battery without harming the motor, ESC or timer?

Do any of you see any problems with this proposed setup?

All other things being equal, more milliamps will not hurt anything. You may have a weight penalty as the higher mAh battery will likely be larger and heavier. More mAh means more capacity, or longer flight duration.

Pay attention to the connector style, as well. Or be prepared to solder your own on.

What Mike suggested should be fine. I have actually had very good luck with the Zippy Compacts. At the same weight, You may also want to consider these 2700's http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=24625. We have done very well with them in the UHP Gieskie Nobler. After using them I did realize that I could have used a 2200 sized battery without any issues too. Your Oriental will probably not be able to go as small as a 2200 but one of the above should be fine. Make sure you check the dimensions against the available space.

WELCOME to ECL. your plan for the Oriental is spot on. 4Sx2500 pack should be fine.

One thing to consider is that right around that size (capacity) the form-factor of the packs change. You will find numerous "brick" packs that are roughly 35mm x 35mm x 105mm that will all fit the Oriental just fine, you will even be able to move them fore/aft a little to fine tune the CG. There are also packs like the Turnigy NanoTechs (very good packs) that are about 28mm x 44mm x 135mm - about the same dimensions as a 5.5 oz fuel tank. I am pretty sure the Oriental will take that pack - but without any room to move it around.

The only reason I mention this is that it is sometimes hard to set-up on one shape of pack then shut yourself out from using other shapes.

Thank to all of you for your suggestions, they have been very helpful. I wasn't aware that batteries came in differant shapes, I assumed they were all standard in size if they were 4s 30c and 2500 ma.
