KR Governor with switch
« on: February 13, 2012, 04:48:07 PM »
If the KR Governor with switch is connected to the speed controller (standard 3 wire hookup) and the speed controller is connected to the motor (standard 3 wire hookup) how does the KR get feed back to controll motor RPM?

The KR Governor/Timer uses one addtional wire that is soldered to any one of the motor-ESC wires.

as Dennis said - and it works EXTREMELY well - I had one turn up today after seeing one in action last week -  the new software added is pretty cool too - can make a 4-2-4 engine run if you like it that way.  VERY cool

As Dennis said there is a link between the timer and the motor that lets the timer monitor the RPM of the motor.  It then commands the ESC to make adjustments to keep the RPM steady (governor).  This exactly what the ICE ESC does but at greater cost.  I also have the software and hardware to install updates to the timer should that be necessary and will do it at no cost, just pay the postage.

I have about a years experience with this product on models from 1/2a to 46 size and can verify it works very well.  I have watched the ICE hardware in action and cannot see any difference in operation.

OK!  The KR is a 4 wire hookup.  That makes sense to this old retired engineer. The standard 3 wire Futaba style plug/cable provides power in (5V dc), ground, and control signal to the speed controller.  Then there is a 4th wire between one of the three motor leads and the KR.  This lead acts as an tachometer.  All very cool.  This allows the use of any speed controller (like in cheep).  Thanks guys for the info.  This info stopped the old headache (at my age it hurts to think).   LL~   LL~   y1   H^^

John, I agree with Dean......just keep thinking! If you want to have a look at the system on my website then it's here: http://www.keithrenecle.co.za/Electric%20CL.htm

I did not want to start bragging about the latest firmware yet. I know that Andy has been itching to post something because he has been helping to test it out. I just don't like to jump the gun until I have the finer details sorted out. I can say however that it is a differential governor gain that kicks in when you climb or hit a hard corner, and this simple thing makes such a good difference that you can lower the lap times and still have nice power through the pattern. Everyone that has tried this so far has been very impressed.

The other big reason for not saying anything is that the guys that populate my pc boards with the smd parts have screwed up big time and I don't have stock. I placed the order on December the 1st. It's no good to start blowing your trumpet if you can't supply! I have been told that I will get stock by this week, but I'm not holding my breath! Please don't shoot Eric at RSM in the meantime, because it's not his fault. Once I have caught up, I will not run out again because I have a new design that has less production hassles, and I have ordered larger quantities. My humble apologies to those that have been waiting for their timers. I will post something about all of this shortly.

Nice one Igor! I don't think that I've ever thought "in the box" so far in my life, so for now it will remain that way.

Hi Allan,

Andy has the necessary programmer and experience to do this in the USA, so talk nicely to him and it can be done. In fact all the testing has been done on the first version. I'm extremely grateful to Andy for his continue help and feedback with this project. Thanks Andy!

What a great writeup.  Every want-to-be first time electric flier should read this info.  To me it looks like the way to go.  Next winters building project will be an electric stunter.  I may even consider learing how to fly! (stunt - that is)

I don't know where Igor finds these things, but maybe that's whe we get on so well!

John, Thanks for the nice words on the website. I'll be updating soon, once everything is good with version 2.
