OK electrical engineering types.....
Do we need the Ferrous magnet attached to the Timer/Receiver lead on the edge Lite 50???
Since we are not worried about radio interference can we remove it??
Thanks
Tim

It's a ferrite core, not a magnet, and you can almost certainly get by without it.
Instead of asking an engineer, who's going to be long on theory and (possibly) short on practice, you may want to ask the general audience what experience they've had in trying it.
If it's not hurting you to have it on, why take it off?

Yes, you can get rid of it.
I removed mine so that I could have a bit longer lead.
Also, I didn't like it as it got in the way of my installation.
We just don't need them. y1

I cracked mine off with a pair of side cutters also.Like Tim said, the ferrite bead is used to cancel noise interference.

Hi Tim :
The majority of my ships use the older out of production CC Phoenix 45( as recommended to me by Bob Hunt). They have none , but as you say the CC Ice Lite 50 does employ one. The CC 45, a different design, is actually more robust with 60 amp spike capabilities. I also have one Ice Lite 50 and left the magnet on . It has served me well , first with my RD-1e and now in a Nobler- all total, at least 200 flights.
When I first inspected the piece on the Ice lite 50, it rang a bell. Horizon Hobbies used to sell a magnetic unit that was slightly larger and could open/close like a clam shell . The design sleeved over extraordinarily long servo leads for Giant Scale R/C ships to reduce interference. I have them on my 35% Carden Cap.
May I suggest you contact Castle and speak with Bernie Wolfard who is a top tier tech over there.
Perhaps, Dean may be able to chime in, too.
Bottom line- For me -it's very light addition to the Ice Lite 50 and doesn't interfere with anything, but the decision is yours.

Frank,
I had them on a few of my Composite ARFs as well and they did help with noise issues in the old 72 MHz days
Thanks for all the responses, my reasons are eliminating bulk for my installation, it may not seem very big but it keeps getting in the way and if we don't need it...why add the weight. I have a nose heavy situation. I realize we are talking grams....but it all adds up y1
Frank I will call Bernie a call, he has been very helpful in the past.
Thanks again
