Broken Thunder Power Charger
« on: May 17, 2011, 12:29:02 PM »
I have a TP610C charger that has popped a component, and so far have had no luck in getting a response from TP about fixing it.  Anyone else have dealings with TP?  Should I just forget it and buy another charger ($120) or try, try again?

Thanks for any info,

John

TP is supposed to be known for their excellent customer service.  I'd try again.

I did call them and turns out the warranty is two years, so this one should be covered.  If not under warranty, they will replace for 50% of the retail price.  So I filled out their RMA and got the process underway, and even more amazingly managed to find the receipt.

So far so good...

In the mean time you may want to consider a cheep backup like the:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5548 at $25 + shipping

I know cheep battery chargers are badmouthed on this board but I have a charger that is cheaper than the Hobby King unit and it seems to balance well and so far works well.  If you plan to do any contest flying a blown charger in the middle of a weekend contest could run all the fun.  As a backup charger - cheep should be OK.  And who knows if it works well you can charge two batteries at once!

Thanks John,

I have two of these, so #2 is out in the shop cycling the batteries.  Don't have any objection to Hobby King's stuff.  The Turnigy batteries I bought from the last year have been a little variable in quality.  The more recent set of six 6S 3000 I bought for the E-Impact have been very well matched.  I've always found their service to be good, but haven't yet bought anything from the US warehouse.

When you have two johns, there's no waiting... #^

Got a note today from Thunder Power that they shipped a replacement charger, under warranty.  Good for them, nice service.

Brand new charger arrived today.  TP does good, still under the two year warranty by a month, no charge.  My pleasure to compliment them on the good service.

Keep your receipts!!!

John
