Jeff,
I placed 3rd in OTS with my electric Jamison Special.  I placed well down in Expert because I'm not flying very good right now.  Certainly not because of my electric stunter.

Kenny and Bruce both used Turnigy set ups that flew very well.  Congrats to Kenny, Bruce, and Jeff.

Nice meeting you, Crist and good to see you again, Jeff.  One tiny correction: I flew a VoltAire "Beta" model designed by my dad Bill.  The fiberglass cowl (layed up by my buddy John Jordan) does look somewhat like a T-Rex.

A few weeks ago, I wanted to get this system ready for the FCM contest since my Cardinal Evolution needed to be retired.  First flights were on 8/16/11 and were my first experiences of any type with electric power.  I deliberately ran very safe settings on the powerplant and despite the plane being way out of trim (and 5.75 lap times!) was able to fly a big 'n ugly pattern after four 2 minute runs.  Needless to say, I was very pleased.

Beta is still not trimmed very well and I still have the power dialed way back, but I can see quite a bit of potential with it.  Time to play with props and motor settings and plane tweaks and all of that other good stuff.  BTW, the contest flights were patterns number 12 and 13 for Beta, so there's still a long way to go.

I'll add Beta's specs to the "List Your Settings" area after I get everything a bit more optimized.  However, I'll put down the basic setup:

Turnigy SK3548-900
Turnigy 4S 3600 batteries
Castle Ice 50 ESC
Hubin 6A timer
APC 12x6 EP, new style (I cut down a 13x6.5 EP to try later)
9400 RPM
~5.30 lap times
64' .018 lines

Sorry for the bits of misinformation.I just wanted to let everybody know the obvious.ELECTRIC RULES.BTW,I was flying a Turnigy.

Doc,
Hopefully somebody can post some pics.I type at the BLAZING speed of 8 WPM and can't figure out how to make the picture files small enough to download and I do a lot of typing for nothing.

While you were flying stunt with Electric power in the scale circles at the FCM contest we had Grant Hiestand win Sport scale with electric power, I took 3rd in sport scale with electric power. I think all told we had 4 or 5 electric powered scale models.

Grant was flying with a E-Flite E-160 and a 9S battery with the 1/3 scale spacewalker, that is a big motor.

Elecric power is taking over in the CL scale circle also.

Also my electric LA5 profile came in 4th.  This is my first electric scale but I will never build another wet scale (except 1/2A twin).  LL~

This is really good news, but can someone tell me what FCM stands for.  I feel like a dunce but I have now idea what contest this is.

Crist,

I cannot find an entry for the power train for your JS on the "List your setup" thread.  Can you please enlighten me?

Thx,

These posts remind me so much of when I was rooting for 4 strokes. When Paul Walker won the Nats with his Saito 56, I was elated. Then Remi Beringer won the Worlds with his 56, and I went to the moon. Nice to see the different choices doing well.

P.S. Christophe Paysant Reloux just won the F3A pattern Worlds with a YS, ( again 6x) up against an almost all electric field. Just goes to show that anything can win if setup right!!

Speaking of F3A ... The thing that was amusing was that for the first time, the E-to-Wet ratio (60% to 40%) was the same in the preliminaries, semi-finals  and finals.
Previously equipment in the finals appeared to be affected more by sponsorships, and the finals would be wetter than the prelims. This has changed now.
