Electrics taking over again
« on: August 10, 2009, 10:07:26 AM »
I know this is a bit off topic, but I was reading through RCgroups and this weekend in Germany there was a new record set in F5D electric pylon racing.  55 sec for 10 laps on the FAI course.  The same pilot did a 53 but is was disallowed because the pilot didn't hook up the 1000 watt-min limiter required in this event.  The airframes are 15.5 sq dm (around 225sq in wings) in size and weigh 1Kg (2.2lbs).  The current F3D glow powered record in 56 sec.

Here is the link

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1089239

Go to the videos and listen to the 3300Kv in-runners on 5S go.  They are over 220 mph in the straights.

So once again, electrics are taking over.

That is some serious fast stuff,,,,,,
Was talking to Bryan this weekend, he is looking into making a 428 quickie do better than a nelson with electric, I think he has a master plan in works that might be solid.
I just want to get around the darn pylons in less than 1:50 with my 424 Viper! ok so I only have two races in so far,,,,

Yes electric is on the move to be sure,,,
For years the rat race had me going around in circles, Now I do it for fun!
