One question I had was how do you secure the battery? Not covered in the book either. They made a nice plywood chamber in there but what was the plan?

Sorry I missed this. Since there are no air loads on the battery retention system there are any number of ways to do the deed:
* Both battery trays (upper & lower) have slots for Velcro straps. Since most folks use these it seemed pretty straight forward to offer that config.
* I am using a chunk of EPP foam salvaged from a computer package. It is a slab cut slightly taller than the battery chamber and stuffs in after the battery & under the hatch. The EPP expands into the lightening holes & such in the trays help retain it.
...and YES the manual should have shown this...
