Title: Electric Sea Fury
Post by: JohnCallentine on December 03, 2012, 06:56:14 PM
Here's a few shots of my new electric project. It's a Rabe Sea Fury. I'm using a Cobra 3520 motor , 5s3000 battery, CC Ice lite 75 ESC. The whole electric package will be removable for service. I mounted the battery vertical because of the short nose. Hope it works.

I saw this thing at the flying field yesterday and was flabergasted...John is an incredible craftsman and does it very quickly.

The removable power pod is fascinating.

If it turns out as nice as the Mustang, he has another winner.

That is impressive, John!
I would recommend a pair of baffles to force the air to hug the sides of the battery rather than flow past.
They would probably only be necessary for warm days.
I like the exhaust air baffle you designed in: very neat.
More than once or twice I've doodled positioning the battery horizontal-spanwise just in front of the L.E. with jet intakes (think old Reese talon ... R.I.P.) blowing right on them. It's got to work.
Regards,
Dean

Well, John, you're not boring, that's certain.

John,
The ship frame looks great. With the battery up front I would do some weight and balance calculation to see were the balance is coming out. It is likely going to be nose heavy, I would add a weight box in the tail to allow trimming the CG.

I have always felt Al's Sea Fury was the most impressive stunter I have ever seen - the "stage pressence" of that brute as well as the excellence of performance was mesmorizing.  Very happy to see another underway, hope to see it fly!

John Callentine is a first-class woodworker.  He makes his living in woodworking.  His fits and finishes must been seen to be appreciated.  In addition to being a master craftsman, he also has a patient and intelligent approach to new technology.  You've seen his Rabe P-51.  His E-Sea Sury will no doubt take it several steps further.

(He's also a very nice and modest guy.)

Here is John's P-51 at the GSSC.  It is wonderful.
