Electric model wins 2010 Hunter Valley F2B Championship
« on: March 14, 2010, 12:40:13 AM »
Well it didn't take long... Congratulations to Bruce (Hoffo) Hoffmann on winning the F2B at the 2010 Hunter Valley Championships with his e Firecracker. Bruce's setup is Arrowind 2832-05, Castle ICE 50 & Hubin FM-2 Timer and 3700mAH battery with a Brian Eather 13.5 dia prop running at 9300 rpm.

Bruce flew a fine pattern in less than perfect conditions and beat the IC engine competition.

2nd place went to Herb Hanna with is AMA Special ++ R&B75 powered while 3rd went to Dave Murrell who flew a Bearcat powered by a Stalker 66.

I came in 6th with my ePathfinder.

Way to go Bruce!!!! Way to go Warren!!!   H^^  ;D  y1  #^  CLP** BW@ HH%% 010! AP^ 8)  8)  8)

Bruce has been exchanging emails with Archie & I so I was aware of his progress.  The Firecraker is a take-apart bird and he built a new fuse to package the electric system.

Hey Warren, sounds like the Pathfinder is flying just fine too!!!

THANKS for the report.

Kudos to Bruce,

Good looking airplane.

These "Take a parts" really impress me.  Couple that with a first place win on Electric power. What a COMBO.

All that performance on 3700 amps is impressive. What is the make and model numbers on that 3700 amp battery?

Linheart,

I believe Bruce is using a Zippy Rhino 20C 4S 3700 from Hobby City.

Yep thats right Archie, Rhino 20C 4S 3700 mAH.

Dennis, The E-Pathfinder is flying really well! There were quite a few guys there who were impressed by the electric models I think!

Cheers

Thanks guys - particularly you Dennis and Archie.  Your assistance and advice in my huge 'learning curve' of these Electric models has been invaluable.  Brian Eather too has been very helpful with his knowledge and expertise - particularly with the props that I have been trialling.  This was the first 'official' outing for the E Firecracker and by far the most unpleasant conditions its flown in.  The wind was quite strong and turbulent as it tumbled over a grove of trees and then the flight circle - most people were ready to pack up and go home as it was raining fairly consistently just prior to the comp. getting under way.  Warren had it pretty right with my EL setup, I have Turnigy 3600 4 cell batteries as well as the Rhino 3700's - just depends which one I see first that I put in the model!  Certainly shows that there is a place in F2B for Electrics - who would have thought that 5 years ago??

Bruce,

Welcome to the Stunt Hanger!!  I am really happy for you as it seems that things are coming together.  It's great to hear that the Brodak (Arrowind) motors are perfroming nicely and the EPS 50 you have has the power to fly that big bird.

Do you have any pictures of your installation?  I would also encourage you to look at the post your set-up and list yours with pictures if possible.  It is a great resource for those who are flying and those who wish to fly ECL.

Great to see you on the Hanger!!  I look forward to hearing more of your future success with ECL.

Wow, a Firecracker with a short nose.  I am so used to the very long nose of a standard Firecracker.
Very nice though!

Hi all...

My second round flight up at the HVC was recorded by Suzanne... I've now uploaded it onto YouTube and this is the link to it (if anyone is interested).  If you listen carefully you can hear the sound of the wind whistling by the camera!

Bruce,

Any word on the new 13 x 4.75?  Also, is Brian considering making these available?  Have you guys also thought to make some LH versions?

TOO MANY QUESTIONS!!!!   LOL

Archie

I saw Bruces model flying Sat and Sunday just gone.  He's using the APC 13 x 4.5 EP and seems to like it. His model is flying 4.7 sec laps and although it looks slow, it just hangs right out there.

I was hoping that.  Otherwise I was worried about the length of Bruce's arm.  LOL

I am so excited that you guys are having the success you are.  I can't wait to get out and fly this year.
