Hello everyone,
I have a ARC IMPACT that has sat in its box for some time and I would like to convert it to electric. Has anyone out there done this with this model? At first glance the lower plastic cowl may cause a few problems although there is enough room for the battery etc.
If anyone has done this conversion I would appreciate their input

Do a search on "electric conversion". Basically you want to cut away enough of the engine bearers so that your chosen motor will fit, then figure out how to mount the motor. I think I'd get an electric motor mount from Bob Hunt (or shamelessly copy his) and replace the nose ring with the motor mount.
Make sure the motor's mounted firmly -- at the Northwest Regionals this year my plane was innocently sitting in the pits when someone's motor landed on its wing.

a couple notes,, I fly a scratch built IMpact electric powered ( there is a thread on here if you search for my name), I can suggest that you make sure you have enough room to get the CG about an inch forward of stock glow position. I havernt touched an Impact ARC so I cant really be specific,,,
Make sure the battery is centered on the wing centerline vertically,, make sure you have enough room for the ESC to have cooing airflow over it,
What are you planing finish wise?

basically, eflight 32, castle Ice lite 75, Hubin timer, APC 13x4.5 P ( F2b) zIPPY 2700 MAH 6s PACK
Let me know if I can help more specifically,, target 68 ounces ready to fly mine is 72 and it shows some times

Hi Tim and Mark,
thanks for the info in your replies to my thread i will follow up with a search on electric conversion soon. I recently converted my old firecracker and used a Hubin FM9 timer , Ice50 Esc , Plett 28/32 on Tractor with a 3 blade carbon , 3600mah 4 cell lipo.This combo seems to work well and I will do the same for the Impact although I may need a smaller and lighter motor to fit the fuse.
Sorry for the late reply [ work gets in the way all to often ] and I appreciate your input.
Where can I buy a Bob Hunt Electric mount?

In the Seattle area, Tom Strom ( passed away last year) built one of the ARC Impact kits. He called me numerous times to ask for guidance. Bottom line, I attended a contest last year without a plane and Tom had me fly his ARC Impact. If I had not bounced the landing, I would have won the competition even without any appearance points. The point is it flew very good.
It had an E-flite 32 rear mounted. Used an APC 13*4.5 with an ICE Lite 50 ESC and TP 5S2700 batteries. It weighed 68 ounces. It was a very good combination.
So, yes, you can make an electric conversion of the ARC kit. No need for the front mount, and rear mounting makes it easier and lighter.
Go for it. I think you will like it.

Thanks very much for the info. As it happens I have exactly that set up from a previous model which met [sadly] with an early retirement so I will go ahead with that.
