Title: Electric "SAKITUMI" prototype...
Post by: builditright on October 08, 2011, 04:52:55 AM
In addition to the new "SAKITUMI" (I.C.) kit we are offering we also will offer it as an electric,
so I thought I'd start a E-prototype.

here is where I'm at so far.

Hi Doc,

It's taking me longer to build this one because with all the cutting I have been doing I had to stop and fully service the laser; plus I have a lot more cutting to do (thankfully), so I am not getting into the shop as much as I would like to for this one. Sorry for the slower progress.

Hey Walter:
When do you expect to be shipping the Sakitumi kits ?

Hey Walter:
When do you expect to be shipping the Sakitumi kits ?

In the vendors section I posted that we had extended
the ordering cutoff date to October 15, so they should be
ready to go by the end of Oct.

Shipping Update & reason for the delay...

I had placed an order from an outside vendor for custom made landing gear but was never sent a sample so after several weeks and a few attempts to make contact when I recieved no reply I had no choice but to find another source for the gear. Once a few attempts I finally found a source that could not only meet my need I sent the specs and had a sample made. Once the sample arrived and was approved, the materials were ordered by the vendor and now I am waiting for the shippment to arrive.

I am really sorry for the delay in getting these shipped but this was totally out of my control.

One good thing that came from the delay is that I had some time to get a custom designed decal for the kits; and for those that have pre-ordered the kits and have been very patiently waiting... I am giving the vinyl decal with each kit for free of charge.

Since I have a little time while I am waiting for the gear to come for the Sakitumi kits
I thought I would get a little more done on the Sakitumi E- prototype

Yes, better late than never.  Yes also Walter is the man when it comes to details on assembling the models.  The SAKITUMI looks great, bet it flies great too.  I had forgotten this one, does this mean you are coming out of retirement?   Also glad your health is getting better.

Yes, he is a great guy, I just ordered the kit from him last week and he has been awesome. BUT, he sold the prototype ( in the pics ) and doesn't know which Eflite motor it is. Just by the looks and size / weight of the plane I would think it is a Eflite .19, but who knows...

Walter,
The prototype is owned by Dennis Bare and is powered with an E-flight 25. I haven't seen Dennis in about 2 years and am not sure if he is active right now. It is like all Umland designs a superb flyer. Can't remember the finished specs on it though.

Hi Bill, (and all)

Thank you so much for the compliments about my kits we all try very hard to make our kits the best there are, starting
from the cad work on through to the finished kits.

Thank YOU Sir. The Sneeker turned out great also. Best of luck with your current health issues, take care of yourself!! When you get a chance, turn the website back on, I need to take another look at that Red Sakitumi on there so I can copy the color scheme  #^

I just received my Sakitumi-E and unpacked the kit.  It looks really good.  I have been looking at the pictures in this post and they will be a big help in figuring out how it all goes together.  Hopefully I can get er done in a timely fashion.  I have a feeling I am going to enjoy this build!  #^

In building the Sakitumi wing, it is not difficult to get the top sheeting mounted over the leading edge, because cyanoacrylate can be added from the other side.  But how do you get the glue in place when mounting the bottom leading edge sheeting, since access from the other side is no longer possible?  Use slower-setting glue, and lots of pins?

Thanks

Dave

There's many ways to skin that cat. Sometimes I will use Gel type CA and glue dot it on the ribs. Then "roll" the sheet on. Start at the LE and gently roll it back towards the TE

Getting the wing nearly completed. The weight box has 5 sides of plywood.  The plan doesn't show what to use for the sixth side of the box (cover).
Do I cut a piece of balsa to use for closing the wing surface side of the box (the sixth side)?  I suppose that a blind nut should be mounted into the plywood back of the weight box, so that a machine screw can be used to hold the box cover on?

Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave, Sorry for not replying here for so long but we've been crazy busy trying to get things setup, anyhow here is a photo of the nitro kits 1/8 ply sheet. the electrics sheet has a few other parts on it but this will clearly show the part you need to use.
boxed in by the arrows on the picture. Hope this is not to late and helps you out.

Why are so many pictures gone from this post? That's a shame. Is Walter sick again?

Yes. Walter is not making kits at this time.  When you email him you get the following:
