Title: E-rex - aka ThunderJugs - complete and test flown!!!
Post by: Wynn Robins on May 23, 2010, 02:05:38 PM
Here is  my ("supposed") ARC T-rex - as there were a million things i was not happy with  - I ended up putting far too much time into it.....

Conversion to electric was pretty simple - I just ripped out all the formers in the nose and made a fully braced battery slide base (as in picture)  -

motor mounts are hardwood bearers in a U shape - brace with ply and epoxied/fibreglassed to the doublers.

My battery installlation is from the side - as can be seen in the pics also - the cover has a ply tongue in the front and is held at the back with 2 magnets - I used a ball link part as the pull handle - works great!!

Motor - Turnigy SK-35-48-900
ESC - Phoenix 45
Timer - Hubin FM-9
Battery Zippy Flightmax 4000mah 4s 20c
Prop - 13x4.5 APC pusher

Finish is SLC with nitrate doped Tissue - rattle can Duplicolour paint (seeing as I dont have spray gear)

All up it weighs far too much (59oz without the cell) but flies really nice - I have a fair bit of trimming to do - but it shows a lot of promise.

GREAT looking bird, simple/elegant elegant color scheme, I like the side hatch (mine is still in the works) sorry to hear about the weight, but I think Brad said one of his prototypes was in the 70 oz range rady to fly so

What's in a name?  All I could think of was a certain English teacher from around the 8th grade - but I digress :-[

ThunderJugs - two meanings - one you have right - (slang for big - well you know) the other is a mix of Thunderbolt and Jug - being the name of the P47
