What does one do to the motor in order to use a front mount on a E- flight 25, do I have to replace the shaft? ???

OK Bob I now have a shaft on other end of motor with collet for prop, BUT there is nothing on the other end to use a bearing on rear fire wall. do I have to get a shaft to mount on the three holes on motor? HB~> HB~> HB~>

Thanks Bob I was going to try mounting it the other way , just to see if any difference, I usually mount it with wires in back to fire wall. #^

Larry,
The key to the front mount without the rear bearing is a strong mount wall. Bob has a composite mount, I have used 3/16" aircraft plywood (no 1/8" lite ply). I construct the nose with 1/32" ply doubler and install the mount wall with epoxy and small 1/8" wood screws through the plywood doubler. I also construct a box around the mount wall to give some extra stiffening (might be over kill). Were we had trouble with the front mounts (probably the rear mounts also) was using 1/8" lite ply mount wall, this allowed the motor to move due to prop precession forces, once you added the rear bearing it stabilized this. The strong solid single front mount does the same and allows for a simpler motor mount.

Best,           DennisT

Hi Gang,
Between the screw-head crush and the flex one gets with any lite-ply or even 5-ply birch that is too thin (3/16" or better, please) you will see a gyroscopically induced nutating motion (top wobble).
This will tear the nose right out of an airplane!
That's why the 0.093" thick G-10 epoxy-glass is such a good choice of material.

take care,
  Dean P.

Dean I had to change a fire wall on my Pi-Lot from 1/8" 5 ply to 1/8" Carbon fiber sheet and the carbon fiber can be Tap for bolts I still put a back up nut just for insurance. y1
