E Banshee
« on: October 01, 2011, 09:15:54 AM »
I am considering building an E Banshee (sig kit) I searched and didn't find anyone who has done one. Soooo what would be a good set up for one and do the mods as far as shortening the fuselage or moving the wing position apply to an E conversion ?? I have all kinds of E stuff just have never used any of it. If you could dirrect me to info on the nose construction for E power also.

One other question, I have an Oriental Profile kit. Would a set up for an ARF Oriental be in the ballpark ??

TIA

I've built one and it fly's great. I cut the nose about an inch and a half. It was originally converted from gas and cut already. After it crashed I rebuilt it for electric and kept the same numbers. We will build a Twister for next year for my son Kevin.
Battery is a 4s 3000 or 3300
PHX 35,45 or Ice lite 50 will work for a speed control
I use a Hubin FM9 timer
Motor is Exceed RC Rocket  86MB27-Rocket-2820-860kv  @ $20.70 from Hobbypartz
http://www.hobbypartz.com/86mb27-rocket-2820-860kv.html
Any similar motor will work examples E flite power 15, Scorpion 3020-890
Prop is 11x5.5 pusher
Whatever you have for the Oriental should work fine.

               3014-16

AXI          2820/10
               4120/14
               2808/24

Out of the motors you have, use the 3020-16 on the banshee. It's the closest to my setup. I had a 3020-16 on an ARF P40 and it worked great. That will also work on the profile Oriental. Either copy the rest of my setup or use it as a guideline and get similar stuff. Save the 30-26 890 for something bigger. I have one in my SV22. The turnigy 3548-900 would be my second choice for either of those 2 planes.

Here are a few different batteries that will work well on your plane. I'm sure others out here can suggest more. I will suggest only what I am familiar with and has worked for me.
HYPERION G3 CX 3300 MAH 4S 14.8V 25C/45C LIPOLY PACK available here and other places
http://www.allerc.com/hyperion-g3-cx-3300-mah-4s-14-8v-25c-45c-lipoly-pack-p-4520.html

GENS ACE 3300mah 4S1P 14.8V 25C Lipo battery pack available and on sale here. This pack is well liked by RC flyers. Many consider it the best budget pack available. Ships from USA. I have a few. On the down side they are slightly heavy.

Turnigy nano-tech 3000mah 4S 25~50C Lipo Pack Decent pack,Ships from HK.

Turnigy 3000mAh 4S 20C Lipo Pack inexpensive, I've used these with no problems just don't abuse them.

I received my Laser cut E Motor and battery mounting system from Walter Umland today. In a word WOW, this stuff is great. I'm going with the Scorpion 3020-16 motor I have some Gadex 4s 2200 battery's I'll use for now and not sure which speed controller, will have to check my stash for the timer also. Hey Walter the bearing fits perfect !! Not sure when I'll start on it as there are unfinished projects but I'll be reaserching and studying up on my build before hand.

My guess the Phoenix 35 would be enough.

I have a slime-powered Sig Banshee that I'm told has the nose shortened (I dunno by how much) and the tail lengthened.  It flies great.

Lengthening the tail (and making the tail feathers bigger) is an aerodynamic thing that's not going to change with going from slime to electric.  Shortening the nose on a Banshee is, as far as I know, all about making it balance with a newer, heftier engine than the Fox 35 (probably without muffler) that it was originally designed for.

Were I building one I'd move the wing forward in the fuselage or lengthen the tail end of the fuse, probably to roughly match the Fancherized Twister plans that are floating around the web.  I'd increase the size of the tail feathers ditto.  But I think I'd leave the nose long at least until I'd mocked up the balance, because electrics seem to need longer noses to balance correctly.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

I have a Banshee slated for a conversion package project.  I plan on using an APC 10x5.8EP on an Arrowind 2815 and 4S x 2200 pack.  I have the wing opening filled in and plan to move the wing forward - I think it can go up to  1.5" max depending on the battery.  That will help prevent nose-heaviness & greatly enhance tracking and turning (more effective tail).  Combination of right-sized prop & longer tail will mean enlarging the tail will be optional - not mandatory.

Hi Ron
Sorry ,no pix yet - in fact I am still doing the layout work.   I'd say I am at least a month away from a try-out build.

Walter Umland has been battling some serious health issues - you can try to contact him but right now I think he needs our prayers more than anything.

If you are eager to get started, I'd recommend you surf through the "List your Set-ups" sticky note for ideas on how to proceed.  In particular, Crist Righotti has done some GREAT profile build threads.

Good clean E-power installs on Profiles are tougher than full fuse birds!  HB~>

That reminds me I have a Banshee kit in the basement too. The wood in those Sig kits can be pretty heavy. I was going to use it as a template and build it from 6 Lb balsa I got from Lone Star.

MM
Ha This is really funny that what is was going to do but then i thought it would be quicker just to build the kit,but alas now im trying to convert nobler arf to e-power so maybe can get quickly in the air gotta finish something. ive just started going inverted flite and since it seems to rain every day is this normal oh well patience
