Title: Does anyone know where to get one of these??
Post by: ptg on May 05, 2012, 05:03:42 PM
Once upon a time in my travels I picked up one of these prop adapters.   Looks pretty standard but has 2 unique features.

1.   Collet shaft is steel
2.   Collet shaft is tapped for 3mm bolt

Other specs:
Fits 5mm motor shaft
Shaft diameter and thread for prop nut is 6mm

This adapter is a clean, elegant solution for my new plane.  Would sure like to get more of them but can’t remember source.  Anybody know??

Thanks,
PTG

Found a listing for a Maxx Products adapter, part #ACC370 that is made for a 5mm motor shaft and has a 6mm prop shaft - hard to do that unless it is in steel?  Unfortunately there are no pix, but you might be able to contact them and get the story.

Otherwise, maybe TruTurn?

I believe thats a 5 mm adapter from a Hacker motor. Depending on the motor that was bought they gave you an
aluminum or steel one. Those adapters have a 6 mm prop shaft because I have one. The OS adapters are a bit larger where the prop goes and you'll find if you tighten a OS adapter they are hard to get off without some kind of modified gear puller. Any website that has Hacker accessories should have them. The first pic is the Hacker . The second is the OS .

Dennis,
Tru-Turn only makes aluminum shaft adapters. The one I have fits the 5 mm shaft but the prop shaft is 8 mm but requires the backplate to be reamed to .4375 in and another adapter ring made up to tighten the motor shaft.

Thanks Darrell,

That's the one!  Guess I didn't remember where I got it because it came with the motor (or that's my story and I'm stickin' to it ???).

Ty,
I modified a Battery puller I got from a auto parts store. Any of the chain stores should have one. It works in a pinch But I would still rather find one that's purpose made. My guess would Snap-on or MAC Tools but I haven't
looked around yet.

Hey Darrell and Ty,

One good turn deserves another.  Here is your collet puller.  It's made by Hyperion.  Comes in two sizes, 5/6mm shaft size and 8mm size.

Cheers,
