Electric Galloping Comedian

A real challenging build from plans. Rolled plywood cowl almost an ounce lighter than aluminum cowl in recent kit offering of this design.

What is the setup you plan to use?

One thing I would suggest to to allow about 1/8" additional height for the battery to puff a little and still fit into the compartment. I have a Stuka with a TP 4S1P 2100 pack that when the pack was new slipped into the top load compartment with a very close fit. Now that I have 25 flights on some of the packs they are about 1/16" thicker, still hold full charge and capacity but can't slip in without a fight.

The setup is a Turnigy 3548-900, Hubin Timer, Phoenix 45 ESC, 12-6 pusher prop, and currently a 3000 mah 4S lipo. I'm hoping to be able to downsize the battery once I see how much mah I need to do the pattern.

You might want to try an 11x5.5 on it as the original ship flew well with a 10x6 on a Fox 35. My Stuka which is about the same size ship flies well on a APCE 10x6 or a 3 bld 9x6P (Master AirScrew) pulls about 1700 out of the 2100 for the 5min; 20sec flight time (60' CtoC).

Now that is really nice. One of my all time favourite OTS planes. Can't wait to hear how it flys. I notice you have a sheeted Leading Edge, Just checking my plans and mine has Cap Strips with half ribs. Is the sheeting on yours shown that way on the plan?

I got hooked building a lost foam wing and find it the easiest way to build a straight wing. So I modified this and built it lost foam with a formed leading edge. It is so much easier to get a uniform airfoil.

Aha, makes sense, It was always the fuselage construction which put me off actually building one but I have looked with interest at Walter Umland's kit as he seems to have a fool proof jigging method for fuselage construction. If postage on Kits to the UK was not so prohibitive I'd probably have built one of his by now.

The fusalage was the most challenging part. I built a simple jig that allowed me to place the formers so they extended below the building surface. Then I could install the wing, stab and gear, and plank the bottom. After that, all I had to do was flip it over and plank the top.
