Charger recomendations
« on: August 06, 2023, 08:31:24 PM »
I’m getting back into control line after many years. I’m building a Ring Rat 250. Looking for recommendations on a decent but not overly expensive charger/balancer. Any suggestions. I was looking at the Hitec mini but I’m not really sure. Thanks

I am using ISDT Q6 NANO. Good, cheap and very small.

I have the Thunder Power 4 battery charger. Really good but not cheep.  There one unit charger is also a really good charger and affordable.  Good batteries aren't cheep and a good charger takes care of them.

Todd,
If you are going electric the one thing you don't want to skimp on is the charger. This is the thing that got people in trouble with Lipo's when they first came out. Over charging can cause a serious issue. You need a smart charger that is designed for lipos, the thunder power charges are good get the ones that include the AC/DC connections. Don't charge at max allowable amps, it shortens battery life. Don't fully charge lipo packs when you come home from a flying session, charge them the night before. Lipo's don't like sitting fully charged they will puff and then there junk.

Best,   DennisT

I've been really satisfied with this Hitech charger. Have had it for about 5 years. Not super expensive.

As stated it's best not to skimp on a charger, not that the cheapo 50 watt 5 amp chargers don't work it's they take forever to charge, get a a charger with at least 100 watts 10 amp, I use a Antimatter 2X 300 watt 20 amp.
