Charger Box
« on: June 26, 2011, 11:48:09 AM »
Guys
Just wanted to show you my charger box.  It has really worked out well for me.  Everything in one box whether at the field or in the shop.

Wynn
The most difficult part was converting an old power supply and mounting it in the case.  If you want to do something like this the information for converting an ATX computer power supply is readily available on the internet.  I would use a 500 Watt supply for the FMA 10S Charger.  This may be overkill but the cost is very reasonable around $20-30.  You will end up with several feet of extra wire and a bunch of connectors form the power supply conversion.
I bought an inexpensive box to house everything in.  I did have to cut an air outlet in the side of the case but this is not much of a challenge for any modeler with a Dremel tool.   I wanted access to the 12 & 5VDC so a couple of banana pugs from Radio Shack did the trick.  I had some circuit board material to mount them on but 1/8” plywood would do just as well.  A Sermos (AKA Anderson Power poles) is used to connect the power supply to the charger and if need be, a Sermos to alligator clips connects the charger to a car battery.
I keep all the connectors, extra wires and battery log book in the charging bag when not in use.

Wynn I gota ask were did you get the airplane?  I know you want to convert to electric and I'm looking forward to the results.

Norm - the ariplane is a Yatsenko classic that belonged to Paul Lagan here in NZ - he has given up flying control line so sold all his stuff  - at VERY good prices!!!
Couldn't resist this one.

plan on installing Plett 20-16, schulze 18.46 F2B and Hubin FM9-V timer.......so far I have just taken out the slimer.

I know how he feels!  yuck!  BTW, I always help slimmers by walking the handle, not the plane to/from the circle.   :)

Sounds like the electric forum I used to go to for the twiddly stick modellers. They referred to the IC planes as SLIMERS also. H^^
