Well I guess it's time I learn how to fly stunt. I have been hacking around (sport flying) since 1953. In keeping with this effort I have ordered a ready to cover electric Cavalier from Tom Morris. I chose it mainly because I have a lot of respect for Tom's ability as a builder and a flier. Also the fact that he lives less than a 100 miles from me doesn't hurt. Save on shipping cost! I will pick it up. I plan to power it with a Cobra 2820-12 and a KR Govern er/Timer. I will start out with a 12x6 APC EP turning 9300 RPM. All the above items is per Tom Morris' recommendations. Now for the bad news it will be 8 weeks or so before Tom can build my ship.
Now for the real question - how to cover it and keep it light. I am leaning toward polyspan/dope. Or possibly polyspan/epoxy. I am also considering a plastic film covering. Anyway when I get it in hand I will post pictures.
Tom recommends 2500 nah Hyperion Battries. I wounder if the 4S 2200 mah Arrowind from Brodak will do. Right now they have a 2 for 1 sale. Does anyone have a feel for juice needed for a E Cavalier to do the pattern.

Tom has these figured out. If he says 2500 mah, I think smaller will not be sufficient. Why don't you look at the Gens Ace and Sky lipo line from Hobby Partz http://www.hobbypartz.com/batteries.html (free shipping if you spend over $50)They are resonably priced and have a good reputation on the RC boards. We also have been using them on ECL planes in the NYC area and everyone has been happy with them. Just watch the measurements and weights as you should always do.

Hi John,
The great thing (as you know) is that you don't have to worry about a fuel proof finish! I do not know how the weight of a iron on finish would compare to a polyspan/dope finish. I would go with the PS/Dope just because I know how to do that a WHOLE lot better than iron on. Use whatever you are the most confident and comfortable with.

Well I just got an Email from Tom Morris. He says that his #2 Cavalier weighs 42 oz with battery > Battery usage is 1700 mAh cold and windy and 2000 hot and still for a full pattern. So it sounds like his recommendation of a 2500 mAh is right on target for good battery health.

My new stuff for my Tom Morris Cavalier is starting to come in. I received the Cobra 2820/12 motor today. It has a KV of 970. It is an impressive looking motor. 5mm shaft and huge ball bearings. It is also small and light. If it runs as good as it looks it will be a bargain for it's price. $75.00 for a competitive motor ain't bad.

Hi John,
I have a Pulso 2820/12 and the Scorpion is made by Pulso. I run the 2826/10 on a 12 x 6 APC and it works fine. The 2820/12 is a bit small for a 12 x 6 in my opinion, so have a try with the 11 x 5.5 APC. This is a .40 size motor in CL terms and the 11 x 5.5 will fly the Cavalier just fine. Turning the 12 x 6 at 9300 with the 2820/12 is going to heat it up and I think that the lightweight Cavalier will fly like a team racer like that. I have flown my 40 size EZE stunt trainer with the 12 x 6 and it need to run at around 8600 or less on the 63 foot lines. The 11 x 5,5 turns at 9400 so the 970 kv of the motor will be more than enough. Good luck with the Cavalier........it's a really nice model.
