I am working on getting my power package together for the A123 battery. So far it looks like the AXI 2820-8 motor, 3s-2p battery configuration. I was going to go for the CC Phoenix 45 ESC and found two listed one is a Bushless (with BEC that for CL is not needed) for $101 and a High Voltage version  for $135 that seems to have a couple nice additional features but it calls for a min of 3s Li poly.

The question is since the A123's are 3.3v vs 3.7 for the LiPoly will it work?

Best,    Dennis

Hi Dennis,
You want the PHX-45, not the HV45.
Yes, you do need the BEC: that's what will power your timer/sequencer.
I didn't even think the HV runs all the way down to 3S: I always found a 12V lead-acid battery kind of marginal when powering it up just for the purposes of powering it up for the Castle Link.
The standard non-HV will work up to 5 cells, too. Castle advise against the BEC use on 5S, but that's because they are thinking of multiple servo loads (> 1 A) and our timer/sequencers are literally a few 10s of milli-Amps.

Hope that helps,
Dean
