New RH Stunter "ILLUSION"
« on: May 03, 2011, 12:04:48 PM »
This is the latest addition to my electric squadron.
The foam wing is from an old "Miss Poppy" kit that I won in a raffle back in 1976 and never used. It is sheeted with 1/32 balsa.  The flaps, stabilizer, elevators, fin and rudder are made from 6mm Depron and sheeted with 1/32 balsa. The controls are from Tom Morris (fiber carbon control rod, ball links and locking clevises) It has adjustable wing tabs, covered with Black Baron - metalflake red, black and white. Here are the specs:

Motor - Turnigy SK3542-1000
Prop - APC 11X5.5 Pusher
RPM's - approximately 9600-9700
Battery (not shown) NANO Tech 3300 4s
Speed control - ICE 50
Timer - Will Hubin FM-7

Lines - 60' eye to eye
Lap time - 5.5 sec
Total Flying Weight 53 oz.

I am very pleased with the results.

Ron

Ty,
Since I helped set that plane up. I feel I can answer that for you. That timer is an FM-7. It can be switched between "SET RPM" mode and pure "GOV MODE". In pure "GOV MODE" one pot is for flight time(2.5-6.5 min). One is for start up delay(I believe 2-30 secs on that one). One is a course adjustment for RPM and one is a fine RPM adjustment (+ or - 200 rpm) so we can make fine tweaks on the flightline without going too far. Since I (Ron also) no longer fly in "SET RPM" mode I can only remember that the Time pots stay the same and I believe the course RPM pot lets you choose between your 3 settings. I do not remember if the fine pot had any function.
BY the way , I had the pleasure of flying that plane on Monday and I can say that it flew very well!!! Ron has another WINNER here.

Crist,
The wing was cut down and is 51 inches long. My guess is about 550 square inches.

Thanks Dennis. It's a fun plane to fly and handles like a dream. I plan on bringing it to Brodaks along with "APACHE".

I've noticed that most of you folks are using screw-in cup hooks as battery hold downs. Now I suppose that's because you know that you are screwing into hardwoods. Yes/No? While at the local HD yesterday I was searching out hooks to Bolt thru the nose. Best I could find was 8-32 eyebolts. Pretty big and heavy, and of course need to be opened up. I'm not sure what's behind the ply in my P' Force but I guess I could find out with my dremel. What say you, Screw in cup hooks? or keep looking for smaller bolts?

Ward,

I use 3/4" cup hooks from Home Depot or any hardware store.  White glue is put on the threads, after making a starter hole with the drill, they are screwed into the 3/32 plywood doublers. There is really no pressure on these and the rubber bands hold the batteries in place just fine.
