Broken magnets
« on: September 11, 2016, 08:50:14 AM »
Dear all

Had Someone problems with EFlite  32?
I'm  trying to use spinner but the original system that uses a clamp (I don know if the name is correct) don't hold the propeller in place and when this happen the motor broke magnet part.

Thank. You

Guil

Not sure that I really understand what happened.  Is the clamp in question a collet?  Did a magnet inside the motor break or come loose?

Do you mean the prop adapter?

Normally when a prop adapter comes loose the prop assembly just flies off the end of the motor without immediately damaging anything -- any damage that happens comes later, when the prop or the airplane smacks into something.

This is known as a "collet type" prop adapter in English:

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Guil,

The collet (clamp) is made of fairly soft aluminum. (vs the steel shaft and prop nut) If you over tighten the collet you will expand the taper and ruin the collet. They are very powerful and only need to be medium tight. (no explosions trying to shake the prop loose) Think of the collet just like a glow plug... cheap and indispensable. If in doubt, replace it with a new one.

I think the prop coming loose caused an imbalance and the magnets and stator touched. The air gap is fairly small. You could try taking it apart and using just a very small amount of JB Weld or CA to glue it back in. Clean the area well before gluing and wipe away any squeeze out. I have built complete motors and this is not a hard thing to do.

The EFlite series is not a high end motor. Some minor problems could be expected. You might also check your bearings.

Kim.

If the prop came off and the motor screamed out then too much heat made the magnet come out and break also might have melted the insulation on your wires. You can try to glue the magnet back in but still might not work because of melted wires.

If the motor is within a year of purchase.. it might be under warranty if the damage is not from a crash.

Does the throttle try to maintain set rpm, or is there just a moment of rev or torque change?  I actually remember a friend loosing a prop with KR timer and there was not over rev, but the KR uses a sensor wire for rpm and has the governor in the timer.

Dear all

Excuse me my English , sometimes is difficult to explain.

Yes the collet goes off and the motor stop. This the second time this happen
Both times I was trying to use a spinner.

The first time broke one magnet too . But I removed the parts and used normally ,without spinner.

I will try to send some pictures.

I have this motor more than 2 years .
It is a Christmas gift from a big big Friend.

Thank you

This is exactly what I was trying to say.

Do you know if is possible to change this prop adapter to a different type?
My Hyperion and Cobra motor have a different prop adapter .
Thank you

This is the prop adapter I use with a spinner.

http://www.rcdude.com/product-p/hp-adap-50xl.htm

Hyperion HP-ADAP-50XL

It works with a 5mm motor shaft and it has a 6mm prop shaft and nut.

Oh, sorry I thought you were looking for a prop adapter with a long enough shaft to fit a spinner.

Are you front or rear mounting your motor?

Mounting position makes a difference in bigger planes.

I just happens to have an E-flite 32 with perfectly good magnets but the stator has an issue..  I might be interested in the stator if it is in good shape.   :)  or maybe vice versa
