Title: Brodak P-40 kit: Missing wingtip parts?
Post by: Brian Courtice on January 20, 2022, 09:23:23 PM
Looking over my new P-40 kit. The instructions mention the installed adjustable leadouts, but my leadouts are just freely floating around inside the slot. I see no screw, or any means of locking the leads into position.
Is there something missing here?
I would expect to see something like the part in the last photo, but I see nada. If it's inside the wing somewhere, I can't see it or hear any rattling when I shake the wing.

It probably got left out at the factory.  If you're in the US and you buy an ARF from a US company, you're getting something that was built in Viet Nam or Malaysia or China or some other Asian country, and just sent to you.

Brodak's is really good about things like that.  Call them up and see what they can do for you.

I opened up the covering on the underside of the wing and, surprise.., it was right there where it belongs!
It's on the inboard side of the last rib before the wingtip. Far enough that I couldn't see it. Doh!!
Live and learn.

It's not really your plane until you've done some crash repair.  My first crash repair often happens before I get a plane into the air, so -- there you go.

If you just slit the covering then 2" wide clear shipping tape will fix it right up, and the stuff is heat shrinkable.
