I'm planning to build a Brodak Legacy 40 kit and make it electric. They sell this conversion kit for the Vector 40 BH-1948 and say it can work for other planes as well. They also sell a universal kit BH-1943. Just wondering if anyone found these to be useful in doing E conversions of glow engine kits. From the pics it just looks like a plywood box. How does it work?
Thanks,
MM

Do a PM to Dennis Adimisin who is a fine young gentleman. He designed this stuff for Brodak. He is a member on here.

Hey Doc, I do not know if the words "fine" or "young" apply but I'll try helping out
Motorman:
For a Legacy 40, the best Brodak Conversion kit is the Universal A (#BH-1943). I included a couple pix to show what’s in it. The conversion kit includes a new motor mount (firewall) a battery tray, provisions to use a top-side battery hatch, and a couple reinforcements. The Legacy 40 kit is designed with TWO layers of ply doublers - I think you could leave out either the large 1/64" ply or the more normal sized 1/32" ply doubler and never miss it.
BTW, Brodak currently lists 19 conversion kits. Some are generic or Universal, some are designed to fit a particular kit. What you get is a set of laser cut parts and installation instructions. The conversions for full fuselage birds also include parts to convert the fuselage for top side battery hatch. The conversions for profiles all center the motor and (with 1 exception) the battery on the profile fuse. All but one of the profile kits provide battery boxes that allow battery installation from the inboard side – the battery retaining strap does not have to do much. None require any extraneous hatches or covers - but the builder could add if they wanted. The instruction manuals that come with the conversion kits all show installation on Brodak kits (imagine that!) However many of conversions can be used on other kit brands or scratch builds.
The Universal A kit is intended to work with any full fuselage airplane that is 2” wide internally; that is basically anything designed for a 35-45. Of course it is easier to adapt to some than others, the Legacy 40 installation should be pretty easy.
BTW, I think there are a couple Legacy 40 conversions (Bob Hudak's comes to mind) in the "List Your Set-ups" sticky thread

How do you keep the battery from flopping around in there?
