Got working on a new idea for a dirt simple electric mount for Profiles. The mount shown is intended to attach directly to the motor (no X plate) and bolt through the mounts of a normal profile. The internal width is 3/4" with 4 1/32 ply shims. Brodak profile kits use 1/2" cores with 1/16 ply, so the shims make up the difference. I seem to recall the S-1 Ringmaster being 1/2" with 1/8 ply doublers. I do not recall encountering any profile over 3/4" thick not counting any any extra doublers or triplers - if so they would be out of luck with this mount.
It is built from 1/8 birch ply plus 1/32 ply shims. The prototype shown here had the motor mount holes laser cut, but I think in production it will revert to etched crosshairs - to accomodate non-standard mounting patterns like Turnigy & Rimfire - probably others. It seems pretty robust, but I'd think it would be best with small to mid size motors and up to 10" props.
I think this mount would be just the ticket for convering a profile from IC to electric - just lop off a chunk of the front end and bolt this mount in place atop the existing motor mounts. Of course battery & ESC mounts would be up to your imagination.
So whatcha think? Does this look like something you could use?

Absolutely, I'm setting up a couple of profile for both my 11 year old and myself. Any idea when they will be available?

Don't understand the opposing blind nuts.
One side should be a thru hole ?

Allen : only one set of blind nuts, the other side has alum tubing liners for crush, not really needed.
John: ugly is in the eye of the beer holder (but I agree).
James: gonna touch up the design a little, probably be listed on Brodak site by 1-July or so.

More pix soon. Meanwhile, have you ever mounted a Cox reedy on a plastic mount, then mounted that to the fuselage with two cross screws? That`s how it mounts. To mod the fuse - chop it off at or near the back of the motor throat.

OK. I get it. I was trying to get it to fit onto an unmodified fuse.

Hey Dennis, that looks like it would be great to convert the IC Ringmaster I have that hasn't been flown or even fueled & run yet, in fact it's still in silver, so it would be the perfect time to convert and this looks like it would make it Ultra Simple. Does Brodak have them for sale yet? James

Look for it around 1-July.
Motorman: No arguments with anything you said - there are other ways to skin this cat.
Tim: The mod to the front end will vary: the mount is 2" tall, so it you can cut out the motor throat so it is 2" tall then you can actually retain the top & bottom edges of the fuse. OK for a S-1, or a Super Clown, not so much for a Flite Streak - that one probably just gets cut off square.
One more oddball thing, because it attacheds to beams, which ought to be pretty robust, it should be possible to not cut the front end off so much and let the motor hang way out there for balance purposes.

I think you could do the same thing with a couple of aluminum angles from Ace.

I used rectangular tubing originally as it was on hand, but the 2" angle aluminum also works and is 1/8" thick. Easily adapts to beams retrofit or new. I was able to use the 2 back mounting holes already in place on the beams. Clearly the picture is not on a profile, but the mounting is similar. Sorry, I am not trying to hijack your thread.
