Bob Hunt Hole Shot Electric
« on: September 23, 2010, 12:56:27 PM »
I'm pretty pleased with the flight performance and handling of my Bob Hunt designed Hole Shot. The only modification made to the airframe was the addition of the motor mount and the exclusion of the maple motor mounts. Otherwise the model was scratch built from the plan. Built up wing. Descent balsa was used but not the lightest contest wood. Model was covered with Ultracote.

Motor: Cemark 480 KV1120
Propeller: 9.75 x 7.5
RPM: 9700 (also tried 9850)
Battery: Hyperion VX 2200-mAh 3S Lipo

Weight RTF currently is 30 oz.

More flight trimming and handle time is needed.

WTG Rob that really looks great.  Interesting combo. Don't recall I've heard of anyone using the Cermark motors before - how's it working out? Is that one of the Cermark props too?

The Cermark motor is okay and for the price worthy of trying. It was only $33 at the local hobby shop so I couldn't resist picking one up. Compared to my Hacker it is no match but...
I tried one of Cermarks propellers but didn't like it. APC is my usual choice but I broke the last usable one of those so in the meantime I'm using a Park Zone 9.75 x 7.5 in. Kind of flexible but it works okay. Yesterday was using an re-worked APC 9.5 x 7 and that propeller was working well......that is until the end of the flying session when it met mother earth and shed a blade.

The Hole Shot should be a great trainer.....now to just get through that beginner pattern!!

Rob,
as your local "mentor" and stunt coach, I am somewhat offended that I didnt get to maiden this bird for you!,  mw~
well not really, but had I known you were going to, I sure would have been there to watch!
glad it went well, now we need to practice! time to get the Electrajet down so I can fly more often with ya.
Oh and on a side note, I kinda like the green color, it looks sort of like something I have seen somewhere else,, hmm wonder where that was?

weather liars are predicting lots of nice weather for the next week, time to abuse some electrons buddy, lets get out !

Bob: Funny.....my wife also commented on how nicely the wheels matched the airframe color!!! In truth - the wheels came out of the parts bin as the only suitable set on hand. Thanks for designing such a fun to build model Bob.

There is a completed stabilizer sitting in my shop for an electrified Europa project. I just need to get my flying skills honed before that project becomes a reality. I bet you have a nice lost wing foam building system just waiting for me to purchase?

Mark: Don't worry buddy...you will be there for the actual trim flights. Your the one that introduced me to that cool green color. I used to be stuck on yellow but now I think the new favorite will be green!

Wow Rob, that looks great! I especially like how you matched the wheel spokes color to the airframe color. Nice touch. Perhaps a short how-to on this process is in order... ;)

I've been toying with the idea of making my Hole Shot electric and I think you've just pushed me over the edge to do it.

If anyone is interested, I have plans for the Hole Shot and can provide covered foam wings, foam cores, Lost-Foam Wing Building Fixtures or fully built Lost-Foam wings for the Hole Shot. If you are interested contact me at: robinhunt@rcn.com or by phone at: 610-746-0106.

Hi Bob,

If you like green, here is where you can get these "cool" wheels. For you artists, you can even get them with green spokes and blue tires!

Very nice job Rob. With Mark's coaching and this great flying plane, you will be flying the full pattern in no time!  #^

Thanks Rudy. Mark is a good coach but unfortunately we are snow bound right now so the flying, learning and crashing will have to wait for a few months.
