Battery storage question

Is the the correct setting to store a 3000 mAh 4s battery

Hi Paul,That's the one.It takes FOREVER so don't think it's not working.Sometimes the charger "session" times out and quits and you have to start it again.Trax

What Jeff says! Storage charge should be at or near 3.7 volts per cell.

The main reason that I now push the better chargers like the Powerlab 8 and the I Charger 306b is their decent discharge rates. I found it very frustrating to have to wait hours for my batteries to get to storage mode. Jeff on most chargers you can raise the time-out limits and the capacity limits so you don't have to restart.

Well it killed the battery.
The battery was fully charged.
Put it on storage mode. Ran for the 120 mins then alarm me of time. I shut it off and started it again. This time i checked to see how much each cells voltage was to guess how much longer it might take.

Each cell shows 0.00 volts. 
I think i just killed a battery that had 3 minutes of run time on it.  HB~>

Paul,
What Charger are you using? Most chargers stop when they are supposed to. I'm always in the same room as my chargers when they are in use. I always check the numbers and even though I've never had a failure and I'm using "top of the line" equipment I still never trust it.

No, Paul, that one is upside-down, a sure way to kill your battery.

Hey Will - It's a Turnigy Charger and battery.

Ok Howard -  I will reverse it and drop the voltage and raise the amps on my other battery. Thanks !

Hi Paul,  I know nothing about Turnigy chargers but the charger that I use will either discharge to storage level or charge up to storage level depending on whether the battery voltage is above or below storage level. This is done automatically with no input from me other than to set the mode to "storage".

I always use the balancing plug whether charging before use or when placing a battery in storage level.

If in fact your charger completely discharged your battery when it was operating in Lipo storage mode, you must have a defective charger!!

Finally, I don't know what Howard is talking about but I suspect that he was making a joke (your photo of the charger readout appears upside down) and I hope that you were playing along with said joke in your reply.  ;D

The balance plug tells the charger what the individual cell voltage is.
Not using it is probably why the battery is dead.

Having said that, the battery gurus may not like what I have to say next.
I have recovered completely dead lipos by charging for a short time on NIMH mode watching the battery closely and minding the temperature, if it gets hot shut it down.
With the balance plug plugged in you are trying to reach a minimal voltage per cell, I use 3.6 volts per cell.
Then switching to balance mode and fully charge at a nice slow 1-2 amps.
I have successfully revived several batteries this way.

Like the others said, balance plug need to be plugged in as individual cells need to be monitored. As far as reviving a battery, yes some have done it, they are never the same as they are usually damaged internally. My question to any one out here who attempts to revive a lipo is WHY? They are cheep enough now and no lipo is worth the risk of burning ones house, garage, shop, or car to the ground. Even worse is the possibility of putting one life or family at risk. JUST DONT DO IT!!!

Glad I went back a read this tread.

Howard I enjoy your humor most of the time but this thread has no place for jokes. Because you are what I consider an expert I figured you know your stuff but i was going to screw up another battery with your advice.

And not sure i want to risk starting a fire.

These lipo's are nothing to mess with it you don't know what your doing and that's me.

Please provide good information.
