Batteries and motors-"Good"
« on: March 22, 2012, 12:36:25 PM »
I have always likes OS IC motors. They are not the super motors like Saito, Enya or Supertigre which I consider too expensive for my budget. OS makes "good" IC motors at a reasonable price for the average flyer.
I am new to electrics, but from what I have read the best rated motors and batteries are AXI and Thunderpower. They are also the most expensive. I am looking for "good" and less expensive alternatives for the average park flyer. Please correct me if Im wrong.

When you say park flyer are you talking little ready built R/C airplanes or do you mean C/L sport flyer?  Basically you get what you pay for.  OS electric motors seem good.  If you want some stuff to knock around look at HobbyKing.  They are cheap China copies of reputable manufactures.

Hey, Fernando,

Hobbypartz (http://www.hobbypartz.com/moforrcai.html) has a good selection at good prices and they're US based. At times they have low inventory.

Also frequent, Valuehobby (http://www.valuehobby.com/), as well and the already mentioned hobbyking.com

All the best.

Thank you guys. Can you recommend at least three different brands of motors and batteries, so that I can get started? I am trying to convert a .46 Al Rabe Mustang. Also building an Al Meyers Mustang. Maybe .35-.40 size(electric).

eFlight motors are also good.

I've been RC sport flying for about three years on the same three packs of Turnigy 2200mAh cells -- but I haven't been really pounding them, and one of the hallmarks of Chinese quality control is that sometimes they're good and sometimes they're way bad.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.
