Balance connector on Revolectric Powerlab 6/8
« on: November 05, 2022, 05:51:58 PM »
I have a Revolectric Powerlab 6 (new). My parallel board has the correct connectors (JST-XH) for battery balance connections. The board then connects to the charger and has the same connector on both ends of my cable. But, the Charger has a different connector, still 9 pins, but much smaller. Does anyone know what this type connector is called, so I can get one and modify my cable?

I found this

https://www.ebay.com/itm/331229954151?hash=item4d1ed80067:g:GvEAAOSwWYxdbna-

Following down to the detail, it seems to say that the connector goes to the Powerlab.  If you don't find an alternative, then maybe this and cutoff the end that you need.  I use PowerLabs and can no longer find cord/plugs sthat connect to the charger.

For reference, it is a JST PA series connector, 9 pins.

I have ordered the converter cable, but yes, I think I will have to cut off the other end and wire it into a JST XA connector for the parallel board, per Page 61 of the instructions.

Buddy RC shows that they have what you need in stock. Here is a link.  https://www.buddyrc.com/products/paraboard-balance-cable-for-power-lab-6-and-8-chargers?variant=30274498887766 . I have dealt with them and they are great to deal with. This one will also work if you have an 8s board. https://www.buddyrc.com/collections/balance-cables/products/balance-cable-jst-xh-to-jst-pa-8s-435mm?variant=30 . I realized after I posted that you never said exactly which board you had. The first one is the most common and will work on any board as long as you don't use more than 6 cell batteries

As a followup, I got two of these cables from Buddy RC. Plugged right in both ends, looked great. Unfortunately, the polarity was reversed! It was if they had the shell of the connector upside down when they assembled it, or, wired it for Cellpro/FMA wiring on both ends instead of flipping it as per XH standard. So I had to remove the sockets and swap them end for end. I triple-checked the polarity, traced it all out with a voltmeter, and also compared it to the diagram used for XH mode wiring in the instructions, it is right.

A little cutting and soldering to get connectors that worked together on the power side, and I think I have it all hooked up properly. Thanks for all the help, this has been a huge pain from start to finish.

As a follow up, I ordered the part  EPB-9843

https://www.buddyrc.com/products/paraboard-balance-cable-for-power-lab-6-and-8-chargers?variant=30274498887766

It works fine to connect the proprietary Powerlab end to a standard 6s paraboard balance port.  Fortunately I didn't have the difficulty as described by Brett.  Maybe they found a problem and fixed it.  There are some RC forum threads where the MPA fused boards were failing and not balancing.

The inexpensive paraboards will work with the above adapter.

Regarding the problem that Brett was having. There is a setting on the powerlab that allows you to set it for JST. If that setting is not enabled It will not work with most if not all current boards. As far as MPA boards failing,It seems to be a common problem. I will not use them. For those that don't know Revolectrix closed down over a year ago. There is no support and I am not sure if anyone is fixing or repairing them.

William, that may be a good catch on the problem Brett had.

Here is the latest information that I could find on Revolectrix/Powerlab.  There are many pages, and the original fellow (Howard Matos) for repair, after Revolectrix closure, apparently is not active.  There are continued posts and forum activity through today.  Fortunately, most of the CL flyers don't overly tax the chargers ability and they continue to work well.  The MPA boards, not so much.
