Hello.
I have a question regarding the shaft of my motor.
I bought the motor from a friend who had used it with rear mounting. However, I am going to use front mounting. I just noticed that there is a groove with a retaining ring in the shaft that used to be behind the motor. As I use front mounting, it will be in front of motor, right behind the prop shaft cone.
I started thinking if it is OK to have it like that, or is there a risk that the shaft can break at the groove..? And does the retaining ring serve any other purpose, like preventing the shaft from flying away?
If this can cause problems, how easy it is to replace the shaft with a new one?
Thanks.

That ring keeps proper axial free paly of shaft in bearing, do not remove it. Several of us use front mounting without probles (alex for example) with 3 bade props. Replacing of shaft is impossible, the bell is dynamically ballanced on the shaft and they do not replace it also in factory, they change whole rotor also in case of exchanging bearings. It is standard service you can simply send motor to modelmotors and ask for exchanging, it costs aproximately 1/3 of price of new motor.

Thanks, Igor.
You were not clear enough;
-Is it safe to use like this (front mounted) or should the motor have a differend shaft for front-mount use?
You see, I do not know much about electric motors but as a mechanic I am a little worried about the groove in such a highly stressed place :)
I will use a 3 bladed prop and I will balance everything as well as I can.

I do not know about any acciden caused by that construction, I know several people using it that way and I even know two crashes in that cinfiguration ... no problem so far
Is it more clear? :- ))))

Yep, d'akujem! L

:- ))) ... I see you are learning slovak .. btw why you are not here in Radfeld with other Swiss guys???

It's too far away, and I must practise engine starting ;)

Yes Keith, the heat was propably too much for the rubber. But now there's room for a longer one! L

Yup.........plenty of room in there now for many strands of rubber! I'm looking forward to hearing how you enjoy the e-power stuff!

Lauri, you had to come, whole swiss team was there, lot of space and time between hills to learn engine starting, some of us even did not come to first round, because of glacier skiing :-P

Yup, now I regret. But I blame HER. SHE decided that it's much funnier to stay at home and clean the basement.

SHE ... shold next time look to map, and tourist info ... may be she will want skiing, or mountin clibbing, or paragliding from hills, or swimming in moon lake or something similar :- ))))
