I'm new at E-flying  I have not gotten batterys for my motor which is a AXI 2826/10 IT SEAMS THAT A 4200 mah 14.2 v is what I will use I have jeti adv,40 opto plus and a Phoenix 45 ESC and Z Tron timer what is the best set up? the plane is a Vector ARC

Larry,

You will probably not need all of a 4200 mah pack and you could go as low as the Thunder Power Xtreme 3850 pack and still be OK on capacity. Any of the Thunder Power 4S2P packs (either Xtreme or Pro-Lite series) will do a good job. Have a good look at the dimensions and weight of each pack.

As to the whole setup, I would go with the CC Phoenix 45 amp ESC and set it run in governor mode. You will be able to get airborne with the Ztron timer but you will find it hard to set the rpm accurately.

Thanks Kim  I have the Phoenix-45  Castle link but can't get it to work do I have to hook up batterys to get it to work? the link and the Phoenix-45 lights up but ,the down load program when I plug the USB into the PC says no connection? if I put power to motor red and black to 12volts will it run?

Hi Larry,
   I helped a friend set up a Vector not to long ago and because of the tight nose section we went with a Thunder Power 4S2P 4000mah Pro-Lite "brick" pack. It measures 1.25" x 1.875" x 5.250" and weighs 12oz. It will save you 1.5oz over the 4S 3800mah or 3850 mah Extreme packs. Both the 3800mah (7.625" long) and the 3850 mah (5.875" long) will also require you to cut into the leading edge of the wing because of their length. We had to call Thunder Power and order the "brick" packs. They are not on their web site.

   As Kim said go with the CC Phoenix-45. The Z-tron timer works well, but if you have problems order the new version through http://www.bsdmicrorc.com/products.cfm?catID=10006 or http://www.windyurtnowski.com/#ztron.

Larry,

Glad to see another lamb being led to the slaughter. Oh sorry! I meant to say welcome to electric control line :)

The first thing I would do is to reread the Castle link instructions and if necessary go back to the WEB site and look at the trouble shooting guide. I do not think that the ESC needs to be connected to the battery, just to the Castle-Link interface cord and your PC.

Never try to power a brushless motor as if it were brushed. You should only run your motor when it is properly hooked up to the ESC. The black and red wires will not power the motor.

Hello Larry,
I see Kim and Mike are working you over quite well! Ah yes another lamb to slaughetr.
The Castle Phoenix ESCs do not need a battery attached to make the Castle Link run.
The Phoenix HV series, on the other hand, do need a flight battery to be attached for the link to work.

Larry,

With the Thunder Power "Brick" in the Vector and the AXI motor were did the balance come out and did you need to add tail wt to get it in spec?

My experience wit Jeti is better than CC, if you have prog box, you can set all you want directly on field, for exanple you can set directly wanted RPM. The real trouble is that you have opto version what means you neev source of 5V for timer, what is wrong. You need regular, not opto version.
