APCE 10x6 P Dennis can we get these done?
« on: January 07, 2013, 12:02:50 PM »
DennisA,

Looking at the available pusher props for ECL the only place there is a hole is for the 10x6. This size is just what we need for some of the classic ships. I have tried cutting down the 11" props and do get them to pull the ship OK but the amp draw is quite high. I have tried various tip shapes but again I get close but still it draws considerable amps. The big advantage to the factory molded APC is the smooth transition in shape, airfoil and camber that APC builds into their props that results in the strongest pulling power at the lowest amp usage. This is hard to do and get it right by hand. It also allows a smaller battery pack size (say a 2100mah vs a 2700mah) and saves 1.6 oz or so.

On the classic ships I like to keep the power train weight to around 11 to 12 oz's which kinda matches a Fox35 with chip muff @ 6.5 oz, 4oz fuel load and a 1 oz tin tank weight.

OK after all the soap boxing, Dennis can you look into getting the 10x6 P for us?

Best,       DennisT

OK a couple things:

Instead of asking for PITCH I prefer asking for speed and RPM.  EXAMPLE: a Fox 35 type Classic airplane will likely fly on 60' lines at say 5.2 sec/lap.  That is about 50MPH.  My guy at APC works best when I can tell him something like this: I want a 10" prop that will go 50MPH at ____ RPM.  Thus the next part of the target will be to swag what RPM you want to turn.

We flew the Oriental at 10,500 RPM on 60' lines using the 10x5.  If you clip the 11x5.5 down to 10" you neeed to run about 9900 RPM.  Are you looking to run slower than that?  Personally I'd be very reluctant to run much less than maybe 9400 RPM.

Next off, APC needs  a 200 prop kick-off order.  That is where I have come in, gauging interest from several folks then sending in in the 200 piece order on behalf of everyone. Based on APC's other props, I'd expect these to cost only about $3 each or so.  I'd like to see at least a 100 prop commitment before I commit to 200 launch.

Oh yeah you are talking about a PUSHER prop aren't you?

Dennis,
Yes pusher. My personnel preference is to fly a classic ship on 62' C to C lines at 5.1 lap time (about 51 mph) around 9800 RPM ish (within the "governing" range of the CC ESP). I think a 10 x 5.5 might be just the ticket. If the majority wants to go with the 10 x6 that's OK for me I'll add some line length or if the 10x5 we'll punch in some additional R's.

Either way I'd be in for a dozen.

As near as I can tell, this will be a $3 prop.  However, we gotta get a LOT more interest than what has been shown so far!

Dennis,

May I suggest that you re-post this in bold print. By my count, there are at least 7 or 8  NJ / NY flyers using  the Power 15 or similar motors on e-powered Noblers, Gieseke Noblers, Caprice( one mine, soon to be another), profiles (I have an RD-1), Tucker Special, Vulcans(soon), and personal designs.
Bob Hunt and I have discussed the 15 sized e-powered stunters  as  the  "gateway" to electric.
Perhaps, the APC 11x4.5 EP and 11x 5.5EP are too much prop. Not that the motor can't handle those props, the plane is somewhat "twitchy" and doesn't lock in.  Think  about it- it's  as if the prop is stirring  too large a volume of  air over the airframe.  After all, who flew these models on 11 inch props when IC powered ?

Guys, let's give Dennis support. At $3.00 a piece, I'll take a half dozen as long as they are from APC.

Okay, Dennis, if you need a head count, put me down for ten (10) for either the 10x5.5 or 10x6 as the majority chimes in.

Hi Denny:

I'll take a dozen!

Need this prop for the Power 15 projects on which many of us up here in the Northeast are working.

Wrote to my contact at APC asking for the new 10" prop, this is his response:

"Hi Dennis,
Not sure when I'll be able to get to this effort. I have a lot on my plate right now. Maybe in the spring.   I'll use the old thin 11x5.5EP as a starting point."

Patience my friends..!

Thanks Dennis for moving this forward, understand the situations. We will be patience. I'm still in for at least a dozen when he can do it.
