Buddy Wieder & Ryan's Eagle
« on: July 16, 2010, 10:39:48 AM »
Just a quick note to congratulate Buddy Wieder who placed 9th in Open at the Nats flying his brand new Ryan's Eagle electric stunter! Buddy also received 19 appearance points for his ship. Only one model received 20 points and that was Jim Aron's Systrema wet model.

I'm so proud of Buddy that I could just bust. He's fun to work with because he will always strive to do better and has tremendous energy and a great attitude. He's one to watch. He also won the "Rookie of the Year" honors for his placing.

Buddy was the only contestant in Open flying electric and his placing is significant.

Buddy's model flew great in various conditions from light air to17 Miles and hour winds. Buddy's model flew a really good corner not a harsh corner but a corner that the model rotated through. Buddy's model rotated and locked  and it flew a tight hourglass.
In my opinion this model can push electrics to the highest levels i was really impressed by the package.
I cant wait to get home and start flying my electric Genesis Extreme USA1. my models weighs in at 62oz with the same power train. Lets go ELECTRICS

I said it on the other board, and I'll say it here as well.  Congrats Buddy!!!  I guess he fixed the bad spot on the plane from Brodak's to receive 19 points.

When I watched him fly at Brodak's, I was impressed how well the electric flew.  He also showed me how he programs the speed control, and every time I see an electric fly REALLY well (like Buddy's), I keep thinking I got to try it out sometime in the future.

Here are a few more photos of Ryan's Eagle. The model is named for his son, Ryan, who is afflicted with a severe case of Epilepsy. The love Buddy and his wife have for Ryan is inspiring. Ryan is one of the nicest young men you will ever meet and no one in the family let's his affliction get them down. They do everything as a family and they are just wonderful people. A model for us all...

Could you show us a "under the hood" shot?

PS I'm building an electric and would like to see the wiring layout.

Hi Norm,
Neatness counts! But you knew that already.
Actually this needs to turn into another thread on planning/cooling/and electronics installation.

Damn...very nice....is there a Saturn under the veil? H^^ Congrats on your rookie year award and very nice placing! Fine accomplishment and you couldn't have better coaching in my opinion. An electric combo in the top ten from a first year competitor is outstanding!

Congratulations Buddy!

Beautiful looking plane, excellent choice of power and superb skills on the handle - the total package.

Will, that's a great photo. Should be hanging on the wall.

Yes Dean, please make it so.
For us old IC guys this is a entire rethinking.
I for one would like to see:

    ESC mounting
    Timer mounting
Switch mounting - without getting in the way of the battery.
    battery mounting
    arming switch or plug implementation

Bud sent me some construction photos of his Ryan's Eagle - it looks as good under sctruction as it does finished.

I had the pleasure of seeing Buddy's plane in the bones at several points during construction.
It's just as pretty on the inside.

Its exciting to see more models designed specifically for electric power. Great looking model! Looks very similar to Bob's popular Caprice.

I watched Bud's plane fly several times at the Nats this year.  I can see the clear Bob Hunt influence in his flying!

He wanted me to fly it before he left, but time never allowed. My loss.

Nice job Buddy!
