Any news on the latest generation of C/L Timers ?
I have read (somewhere) of a type that have a start delay (programmable) after the "go" button is pressed (for solo flying), plus the usual (programmable) flight timer.
Looking for a simple Battery => Switch => Timer => ESC => Motor set-up.
I fancy making an electric Peacemaker with my Brushless / LiPo set up (currently in a converted "Herr Little Somethin Extra" R/C).

Thanks for the reply Igor, I hope I am not being thick here but I only see 3 posts :-[ so the info in post #4 is unknown to me ???
From looking at the pics, I take it the he Jeti box is some type of programmer for the little 8 pin I.C. connected to the ESC ?
I read you post "My homebrew timer" with interest :)
I wonder if this is the sort of thing I am looking for and if a commercial version is available ?

Will hubin does a range of timers that would suit you whubin@kent.edu he is a good guy to deal with and you can use paypal .

I second what Pete says about Will Hubin timers. They may not be the most elegant but they are functionally beautiful!! The prices are reasonable too.

I did not write it there, but jeti-box is standard programmer form Jeti used for programming all new jeti devices. It is available in any shop saling Jeti stuff. My timer is done to allow programming by the same box - just because I use Jeti ESC. So the box is not programmer of any PIC processor, only for that timer. And the timer allows any time and throttele sequences.
If you have Jeti box, send me your address and I will send you one timer, you can try it :-) ... timers are available and many friends here use them, but problem is payment from outside. So that is the reason why I do not sale it outside of europe.

Will Hubin's timers just plain work. Simple to use. You can select one that controls what you want or all you want, and he hand tests every one himself so you don't get a bunch of out of the box failures like I suffered thru. My flying partners and I have flown a number of his timers this year. As far as I am concerned they set a pretty high standard and are finally what we have been looking for. They are truly plug and play and easy to use.

I like Will's timers too.
However I have no complaints about my JMP-2 and Ztron timer either. All do what I need to do, and have done so for a couple of years at least. Each has it's positive (and slight negative) points. Sometimes the positive feature also has negative features too. For example, I really like the small size of the JMP-2. But that small size means it is more complicated to make field changes. I bought my JMP-2 and Ztron from BSDmicro.

For field changes, my Hubin timer is really the most convenient.
But you won't go wrong with the three I listed, and other "modern" ones either.

What I'd really like to have is a JMP-2 timer with a "speed" pot or better yet a 3 position switch (dip switch would work) so I can select which of the 3 speeds I can program into my CC Phoenix speed controllers I want to use for the flight. Example:
On the CC speed controller:
1) 8800
2) 9000
3) 9200
Then depending on conditions, I select, on the timer, 1,2, or 3 for the speed fpr that flight.
This timer would be just like the standard JMP-2 with just a small pot added. I would just turn the pot to low, mid, or high to select the speed. Oh I would also like to get rid of the "burp" at the end of the flight too. It really isn't necessary for me. I always fly with a stopwatch. I know when the motor is going to stop.

The ZTron simple timer does exactly that, two pots: one "speed pot" where you can use three different speeds when used with a CC controller in Set-RPM mode and one pot for flight time. Thats just about it, no more bells and whistles.

There are 3 models - the "Simple Timer", The z-tron 3, and the z-tron 4.
Also, at the top of the page under "Documents" is the instruction sheet
from the JMP - according to the sheet, you can turn off the end of flight
burp - I have a JMP but I've never played with that function. I'll try it
this evening.

The JMP instructions are for the JMP1 timers which are not available. JMP-2 timers have the burp and cannot be turned off. Also the difference between the 2 is that the JMP-2 has the throttle creep.
The Ztron instructions are not for the "Simple Timer". Anybody have them and can post them?
