Almost Free Outrunner
« on: August 26, 2009, 05:28:46 PM »
Hi Guys,
I saw this over on RCG and thought a few of you might be interested in it. Below is cut and pasted directly from RCG. Shipping seems to average 17-20 dollars and that's all you pay. A few may be worth checking out. I put in for a 2826-10.
This is a good deal. Cost of shipping only from China on a limited number. Broad catalog line that seems to parallel AXI part numbers. Look well designed. I've got one on its' way.

Check it out: http://pulsosystem.com/usa.html

Better be prepared for a wait -- I sent an email over a week ago and have received no response.  Tried a 'follow-up' tonight, so maybe some reply is still going to be made ... but I'm not holding my breath.  If I do hear something, I will post an update in this thread.

I haven't heard back either but figured if you dont request it you wouldn't even have a chance of getting one. If I get one or here back it should be at least worth testing.

After more than a month, since my initial attempt to email them, I received a reply and instructions on receiving the 'free' sample motor from Pulso/Danlions.

I tried from all my email addresses (5 of them) and got bounce messages from one or two or simply no reply at all.  I then started searching on the various electric forum sites (RCGroups, RCUniverse and Wattflyer.com).  Eventually, a sticky thread on Wattflyer started by "Pulso Systems" came up and I joined that forum/thread and made a couple of posts and a couple of PM's to Pulso Systems.  Unfortunately, it seemed that Pulso Systems had abandoned their own thread, and stopped posting, even before the Sept. 15th deadline had been reached.

Then news that the Danlions website had extended the offer to Oct. 15th was posted, but still I got no answer to my emails or PM's.

I had finally given up, and decided that there was some hoop I wasn't jumping through or the Chinese government was fouling up the email or something when suddenly, I got a notice that I had a new PM at Wattflyer.com, which turned out to be instructions on who to Paypal the shipping charges to.

So I've Paypal'd them $20 for shipping of a '2826-10' (numbering appears to mirror the Axi line) - which is not really out of line for shipping from Chinese sources.

The other Wattflyer users who have reported contact and Paypal' ing funds have begun to receive motors, kind of out of the blue - no shipping notice or tracking numbers and there is no real limit to what you can request, as far as motor sizing, although they are reported to be "out of stock" on some sizes.

So, we'll see if something turns up in the mail, now.  I'd like to fly it yet this fall and if I do, I'll report impressions in this thread.

The 'free' sample motor arrived today.  I never did get any notice of its shipment or any tracking number.  They did reply to my Paypal payment that Sept. 30 to Oct. 6 would be a National Holiday and that the motor would ship about Oct. 8th.

I got a brief look at it over my lunch hour - I got a 2826/10 and will likely try it on the Twister if we get any more flying weather.  I will also have to scare up a 4-cell to test fly with.

Initial impressions are that the material and workmanship is very high quality.  The weight is a tad over 6 oz. and when held up against an AXI 2826, it is a probably about 1/4" shorter.  Somehow, that 1/4" is all in the baseplate assembly - the straight part of the rotating can is about the same length as the AXI, implying that the magnets are roughly the same length as AXI's.  I can do a little more detailed report after I've had a chance to fly it.  The motor comes with an X-mount and a bolt on prop adapter, but no collet-type adapter.
