Title: Albatros DII Updated pics
Post by: Leester on September 01, 2008, 09:03:16 AM
Looking through FM a couple of months ago I came across the add for Manzano Lazer Works in NM. I checked out there site and all there kits are for electric r/c mainly scale. Checking out further I saw the 42" Albatros DII short kit and the link to a building thread and I was hooked.

It is designed for a Park 480 motor with a suggested weight in the upper 20's to low 30's.  So I'll give it a try, I'm sure it will take some time but thats OK. The Lazer cutting of the short kit is very good and the wood seems fine. The plans are on 4 sheets and as with a RSM kit they expect you know what your doing (no dirrections) that is where the building thread is of great value.

So far everything is going ok, I'm planking the fusalage bottom now using 1/64 th ply as recommended.

Will keep you posted and by all means any hints, tips or suggestions let me have'em.

Some more: Of course figuring out the B/C and controls will be a challenge, but I'm sure I'll figure it out.

The bottom half is sheeted and now ready to solder the under carriage assembly. The top half is framed up and ready for the upper struts then sheeting and assembling the two halves. For this type of plane I'm wondering if a 3" bellcrank or a 4" should be used ?? any ideas.

So far the toal weight is 190 gms.
