Additional Tsunami Pictures
« on: May 13, 2010, 11:55:17 AM »
All,

Here are more pictures of the early fuse assembly, hatch assembly, motor, control system etc. Please feel free to ask any questions, or make suggestions. This was originally designed for a composite fuse so there were a lot of compound curves to mold in the sheeting. I later decided to make this prototype first before going to all of the molding effort. I now feel that the molds will be worth the effort and produce an even lighter, easier to construct model.

Hello Tim,
Nice work ... please explain or show the wing-end details of the plug-in. Are the twin tube spars CF? Diameter?
Wing retension and spar tension/compression details?
More input, please!

Thanks,
Dean P.

Dean,

These are actually fixed/glued in place. I used 1/2" OD carbon fiber tubes from TNT. Since it was a prototype, I did not make it a two piece wing, but it could be done pretty easily. The design idea was conceived as an accurate way of assembling the airframe with a composite fuse and wood wings after the fuse was molded and complete, and this what I came up with. The tubes are 25" total length an are integrated in between the 1/4" wing spars and sheer webs. Sorry I do not have pictures of this but I will if there is any interest in others building one

Problems I encountered: I thought I would have enough room to install the bell crank between the tubes using the Tom Morris system with a ball link, I didn't.....oooops. Next revision will fix this. The only issue this has caused is a bit of asymmetric throw but I have more than needed so it is not really an issue other than it bugs me :)

Very nice.  Much MUCH coolness!

I like how much shape you got in the fuselage cross section (looks good and STRONG) and it obviously looks very light.  THe POWER motors are built like brick outhouses too. You sound happy with it!

Hope to see ya in PA next month.

Dennis ,

thanks, I will be there on Monday - Saturday.
Looking forward to it, I need to get some practice in though, I have not had as much time to fly this spring.
