Ask Igor.  He's done well with A123s.

Yes, we all here use A123. I have 6cell pack, Axi 2826/13, prop Apc 12x6, Jeti Spin 66A ESC and my timer. Battery weight is 6x70g=15oz plus some wiring.

The paper capacity is only 2300mAh, but you can go to 99% without degradation. I even know guys flyin to "empty tank"  ;D without timer. That combo gives flight time only 5 minutes what is just proper time for whole program.

I use them fixed in fuselage and I charge them like just before flight like a tank of IC engine. I can do flight every 26 minutes (that is number which I always see on watches when I reset it before start), so charging takes less that 20 minutes at 10A charging current. I charge it by Pulsar2 but guys around use Cellpro 10

My oldest pack has now 2 years and after aproximately 400 flights I think I will change it, because I found that the capacity is little over 100mAh smaller that it was new.

You will need charger with A123 program, ESC able to work up to 22V and fuselage where you can fit them (they are impractical, round and large). You not need to worry about cooling, I have sealed battery compartment to keep them warm.
