Anyone out there using either ? Can they be front mounted  ?
The KV ratings appear higher. Plettenburg is pretty much the standard in R/C pattern. Longevity ?
Perhaps the purchase price is so much higher because of the quality of bearings, magnets, etc. that the German(?)  manufacturer uses.
Appreciate all feedback if you've used them.

Hello,

I had a 20-12 front mounted in my stunter and it worked just perfect for about 350 flights before the shaft was pushed back by the ground  :(

They are very well made, the winding is very well done and the balance seems perfect. I think that the front bearing that supports the bell makes the biggest difference.

Regards

Plettenberg Orbit can be mounted from both sides, you just need to specify orientation at order. Front mounting allows cooling fan on back of the motor. Or you can order conversion kit and then you can decide later. The price difference is not only quality and brand mark, but also 3rd large ring bearing supporting bell from the other side. Usual outrunners has bell supported on one side on the shaft. Orbit has large ring bearing also on the other side, and THAT is the bearing supporting axial forces of prop shaft.

You must be also carefull what screw pattern you want use. Orbits have either small mounting plate with 2 mounting screws, or larger with 6 screws (4 at larger distance and 2 at orriginal distance), I recommend order that larger because of gyroscopic forces in our applications with large props in tight maneuvers. Those plates are also interchageable so you can order both for the case that you do not know if that larger fits in the nose.
