Title: 3D printed Li-ion battery 2S-6S endcap files - 18650 & 21700
Post by: Brent Williams on January 26, 2023, 12:13:25 PM
My son Alex and I have designed a full range of 3D printed end caps for the 18650 and 21700 size Molicel batteries in 2s-6s pack configurations.
(He's a sharp 14yo young man and I couldn't have done this so rapidly without his Fusion 360 and Cura skills!)

For some folks, 3D printed end caps present a great solution for building Li-ion packs at home.  Obviously, 3D printed end caps are not required for building your own Li-ion packs, but they do have some good attributes.  The end caps provide some cell separation and the top cap gives protection from accidental shorting.  The cell separation also aids in cooling somewhat.  As compared to a traditional PVC wrapped battery pack arrangements, the use of end caps will obviously add a small amount of weight and length.

The 3D .stl print files are now available for free download over at Thingiverse:  https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5828634

Enjoy!

- Special thanks to Dave Rigotti for the inspiration for this project.

Hi Brent,
Are you making the end caps for sale now, if you are, I would like to purchase a few sets to build up a few sets of packs for the up coming flying season.  I have a keen interest to try new the packs on a some of my new models.  Also, are you able to sell the 18650 Molicel cells?  Maybe I can piggy back an order with you to help increase the size of the order, just a thought.  What I’d like to start with are 6 cell packs and 4 cell packs and see how that goes.

2) sets of 6 cell end caps.
2) sets of 4 cell end caps.
20) 18650 cell to assemble the packs.

I would send the funds in advance so as not to burden you with that, of course there are other items as well such as balancer leads and solder strips.

Thanks in Advance,
Mike Pratt
