eFlite motor shaft 'reversal'
« on: April 07, 2013, 06:56:34 AM »
Good Morning All;

Purchased an eFlite Power 15, and despite having read the instructions multiple times on the actions needed to 'reverse' the motor shaft in order to facilitate front-mounting the motor, I am still uncertain on the actions required.

It states to remove the collar and o-ring, then loosen the grub screws on the other end of the shaft, then (possibly with the use of a small hammer) 'tap' the shaft out.

Am I to tap the shaft completely out of the motor and swap it end for end, or it is merely tapped through the motor so more extends from the other end?  Checked various on-line resources, and as stated, it's still unclear to me...

Thanks in advance,
Dave

Hey Bob,

I have found that Wiha are the way to extract the tiny phillips from motors.  http://www.wihatools.com/200seri/261serie.htm
They have the perfect fit and the good steel necessary to avoid stripping.  The user must apply considerable force directed into the screw while rotating gently.  I have model number 261 PH00 x 40

I've followed the guidelines and got a question.
The oring/washer, when the shaft is reverted, it will be over a flat spot on the axle, as the bearing will.
Is it the right way? How much of the shaft should remain? They say to tighten the screws over the flat spot after you slide the axle through the motor.

Marcus,
If the rear of the axle is flush with the back of the motor, then the front bearing will sit just behind the flat on the front of the shaft.
